Twilight video game absence has "cost millions"

Recommended Posts

The lack of a Twilight video game has wasted the opportunity to make "millions", according to analysts.

Speaking to MCV Magazine this week, Games Investor Consulting analyst Nick Gibson said: "Given how hot a property it is, [a Twilight video game] could easily present a seven-figure exploitation opportunity, especially if publishers consider taking it beyond retail gaming and considers network gaming. It may well be that the rights holders aren't aware of the potential benefits because they haven't explored the games market before."

There has been no word on a standalone Twilight video game from any publisher up to now. If created, Gibson said it could find a huge market with female gamers - particularity on Wii and DS. There is one Twilight video game available, however - Konami's themed Scene It?, which hits the UK today. Reports have also said that BrainJunk Studios has acquired the licence to make a Twilight video game. Twilight: New Moon is released on DVD on March 22nd, while the third film in the series, Eclipse, is due to reach cinemas later this year.

Now this is a bit of a curious topic. We all know that the Twilight books and movies are grossing a hell of a lot of money, but no video game, which is usually the norm for popular franchises. There's been a Harry Potter game for every movie in the series. Even the TV shows get in on it: Lost, Prison Break, 24, etc.

Now obviously, I don't think anyone here is even the slightest bit interested in playing a Twilight game, but it does raise the serious question of why hasn't there been one yet? Regardless of how crap it would be, it would make millions.

Not to be picky, but it hasn't "cost" them anything.

The lack of a game hasn't lost them anything either really.

But, what type of game would it be? With the program been "teen/tween friendly", they couldnt really make a good 1st person out of it.

Ugh. The less Twilight merchandise that comes out, the better! The sooner this Dawson's Creek meets Vampire Diaries crap franchise disappears, the better! Moving on already...

If little girls played more video games, then maybe, but I don't think that's how it is.

Honestly, the game would most likely suck since the movies are boring, and it would give another reason for people to make fun of the Twilight series.

Good move on their part, imo.

Yes does seem like there is a strange absence of a game... how much would it suck for hardcore gamers if the Twilight game came out and it was awesome :p

It doesn't cost millions, but potential revenue is obviously on the table.

As far as why no game, good question. I know there is a board game (my mother in law is obsessed and bought my wife the game  ). It could be down to negotiations or rights to the franchise haven't been permitted yet. I'd say give it time and it will come though... It's pretty much inevitable.

The awesome, yes, awesome part is that achievements would more than likely to be easy which means.. This would be the perfect achievement booster for a 1000GS game. I know my boyfriend would play it just to get easy achievements. :p

How many young teenage girls own a PS3/Xbox 360, or a gaming PC for that matter? I'd assume that number to be very low. Thing is, they're what make up the bulk of the Twilight fan base. I'd say they would have lost money if they invested in the development of a Twilight console/PC game.

Agreed.

Went to Best Buy today to check out which different routers they had at the store.....the entire entrance was filled with Twilight posters and crap. Felt completely gay walking into Best Buy for the first time ever. :/

Twilight advertisements - The only way to make a geek uncomfortable at your local Best Buy........

If anything, it has SAVED them money.

Gamers = mostly guys

Twilight fans = mostly teenage girls.

don't they see that no one is interested in a Twilight game?

You wake from the dead of night to see someone hovering outside your second story window. Would you like to?

a) Open the window and let the vampire in

b) Scream as loud as you can

c) Visit your wardrobe to see if you own anything gothy.
