game_over
http://www.gbbo.co.uk It looks like Google and BT have teamed up with some other companies to offer free domain name. The purpose is 'Getting British Businesses Online'. I've ran through the process it's quick, easy and seems to work fine. There is nothing alarming in the T&C's so i just thought i'd spread the joy. You can transfer it after 60-days.
0 Asharae
This sounds good, but how much is it going cost after the "Free" time has run out? I done it once before then got slapped with a massive fee after :/ Sounds good though anyways! :)
0 +jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted March 23, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted March 23, 2010 It's free for 2 years, and then it's standard price every 2 years. Which is only around ~£5.00. Hosting is completely free though, as it's just simple hosting. It seems like a good initiative to get some lagging businesses online though. They can either continue it after 2 years, or let it go. 0 game_over
Yes there is no commitment so if after 2 years your not using it you don't have to pay to renew it. I've just transfered mine to my own hosting, it works fine.
0 Asharae
In that case I might have to have a look into it! Thanks for the find :)

0 Phenom II
Yea I was about to register a name, when I read that is has to be purely for advertising your own business.
0 game_over
How do you transfer it? I can't seem to find it, or do you have to wait 60 days? Sorry my post was mis-leading, you have to wait 60days before you can transfer to your usual domain registrar. But you can change the name servers to point to your own hosting account (instead of using rubbish google sites) You login here: https://www.myportalexpress.com with the details u received in an e-mail. 0 Cupcakes
For what it's worth, 60 days is base wait time for any domain name transfer (after a fresh registration or renewal.) It's annoying to deal with but not too bad. If you do transfer it, remember you'll pay a new transfer fee with the new registrar BUT you will get 2+ more years for the co.uk. Which is the same for any TLD that you transfer--it's basically 'renewing' it as well. :)

0 c3ntury
Looks like a brilliant initiative in my opinion, lets hope these new businesses online dont have really crude and nasty web-design that make you want to rip your eyes out.
