glix81
hey I was just defraging my computer when I found that my page file was fregmented throughout my drive. So I got the idea to turn it off for the defrag. Now what once was green, is now red blobs throughout my drive. So then i got the idea.... why not just delete the pagefile? Now I just need to know where the hell is my page file cause i just can't find it. I did however find memory.dmp, and deleted that, Please help me Hey Could someone here please tell me where windows XP keeps its page file please? Msg me.. purush
I have 512 MB of RAM, and I have disabled the page file. You must have minimum of 512 MB of RAM before you disable this feature. Right click my computer, advanced, performance, settings, advance and uncheck page file. My system runs faster now
Sonnyr
I'm always amazed at how one collective mind can outwit the collective minds of Microsoft. Simply amazing!

Sonnyr
Right click My Computer. Select Properties>Advanced>Performance>Settings>Vitual Memory>Change. Your options are located there. Your best solution is to just let Windows handle your Pagefile. Defragmenting often defeats the built in XP scheme. Every 3 days XP will automatically rearange the most often loaded programs for faster access. Unless you write large amounts of data (files) to disk, defragging is only worth the effort a couple of time a month. I know this is contrary to popular belief but it is true. If you want to speed up your system, first invest in more RAM, then when you can afford it, get a faster system. Defragging constantly is a waste of time and resources designed into the OS. Please beware of Video Arcade graduates giving ill informed advice. For Microsoft's advice for Pagefiles, see the following. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...b;EN-US;q197379 The link is a little slow this morning. glix81
You see thats just it I do write to the drive ALOT. I get 10GB of data dumped on my my computer every 2 or 3 days. Its burned, and erased. But after doing that for over a month, my computer has became a fragmented ######. Not much left of the drive over all. It was so freged at one point that it would not even recognize free space.

I dabble with A/V Editing of home movies which take up quite a lot of space in the DV format that my camera uses. A 60 minute DV tape can take up to 20GB of space. If I don't defragment the drive prior to capture, I get dropped frames like a mofo, but after defrag the captures have little or no dropped frames. Sonnyr
Generation X, when you went to Control Panel>etc. to change, did you click on Set? I've seen many people make the changes but forget to click on Set.
