___GiRiBoY___
I am from New york and PS 3's here are absolutely out of stock for quite a while now. I have tried major retailers like bestbuy, target, sears, walmart but with no luck. so i finally decided to look on ebay and craigslist. they are selling it pretty expensive compared to the usual $299. but i found one seller selling a brand new PS 3 for $299 with 1 yr manfg warranty and i also get a $24 BCB. So do you guys think it is worth it? or should i wait for it to be available on Dell or Sonystyle. any suggestions would be helpful.
TDQuiksilver
I don't see the problem if it's purchased from a seller with reputable feedback. Go for it! (Y)
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted March 24, 2010 Veteran Share Posted March 24, 2010 According to the Gamestop website they have systems in Stock in the Tri State Area, and that includes NYC. Did you try any of the GameStop's in your area? Here is the PS3 page. In the screen-shot I attached, where it says Store Availability, click View More and you will also want to Change Zip. But literally pretty much every single store they have in the NYC area says that they have at least one system in stock. If the store is listed when you click View More, that means it is In Stock. It is just Backordered on the website itself, not In Store. I would go that route if possible. Even if it means a subway ride, and I know NY taxes are crap (so maybe take a train to NJ?) but it means you will get a brand new one and know where it came from so to speak. Just my .02 cents, but if the seller is reputable on EBay, then why not I guess. dead.cell and ___GiRiBoY___ 2 Share

May be they are cleaning the current stock then later they will refill with a new model / pack, for example the ps3 final fantasy 14 (or 15?) pack. I am Reid
why couldnt you have just bought one from any large online retailer?
SimplySchizo
why couldnt you have just bought one from any large online retailer? Cause, they're all currently out of stock/backordered. The last major retailer to go OutofStock was Walmart. They had a Starter Kit Bundle going. Their shipping actually made it a tad pricey. What I did was go on Gamestop's site and went through store availability. punched in my zipcode and called every store down the list till i struck gold. with tax it totaled exactly $320.
TheDreamX
Yeah, not really sure what's going on, but my roommate had been looking for one for the last few months. After countless hours of screening web retailers and big box stores, he was finally able to grab one during a quick resupply at Amazon (via Target). Moments after he finalized the sale, they were sold out again. It's very strange. There were plenty of 360s and Wii systems at every store we visited. Final Fantasy XIII, Heavy Rain, and God of War III are good, but I can't imagine a few games this late after the system's release could cause retailers to empty their stock. Sikh
All i know is, GameStops in the major cities are getting ALL OF THE STOCK we have anywhere in the US sent to NY/Cali/Chicago. Our major performing stores. In NY our 1st Store / 2nd Biggest store(first is in la, gotta go visit it) had 28 yesterday. I called today, they had 3 lol. Believe me, we track inventory on the computers, and it tells us what store near us has one, I put in my old NY zip code and it poped up that Broadway(downtown by time square) has "10-19". I was like "em WTF". Called them and they said they just got them in(1pm) and were going through all of them. I was suprised. We get about 2-3 every 2 weeks or so. Only reason is, we are one of the many stores selling PS3's like crazy, and our regulars who love us come back and keep checking, so we pretty much have a list set. Unless they cant make it / pay for it that day, we sell it. If not, its theres. Good job on finding one thou. Stick to reputable feedback and score. /offtopic Some guy on craigslist is selling a 60gb BC, 5 games(nothing special) and 2 movies(transformers 2 and district 9) for $280. I swear to god I almost called him if I didnt end up fixing the 60gb i have now. Its such a good deal. I DID call him later and he's about 38 and has had it since launch, but he got a slim because of space and didnt care too much for ps2 games, but his buddies used the hell out of it for ps2. He said it still works for blu rays and he hasnt had any freezes(thank god). He's used it roughly 40-50 hours a month since he's owned it. But it was time for him to "upgrade". I want it to bad :(. Looks clean as hell. He had it in a nice entertainment glass door cabinet and kept it clean from dust so it was nice and shiny when he sent me pics. SimplySchizo
$320.99 ? ? ? thats expensive, isn't it? i had seen a $269 PS3 on DELL.com but before i could put in my credit card details it went out of stock :( 299.99 + state tax = 320.99 here. i dont mind paying retail on an item thats being bumped up on price due to demand/lack of availability. that dell was a one or two day thing they had going on. it didnt last very long at all before they were out. Tha Bloo Monkee
As someone else said, but I want to stress this, if you do buy on Ebay don't send ~$300 to someone who has a low rating or not many sales! Go for someone with a lot of sales and has a high reputation! If you've never used Ebay and don't know what to look for in a "trusty" seller, I'm sure people on Neowin would be willing to help you out (ie, ask "is this a trusted seller? would you buy from this person, etc")! I'd just rather not see people get ripped off...

Great great site. Used it for years. :) Grats on your purchase though. If it's not too much trouble, do keep us updated with how your purchase comes out. I'm definitely curious and excited for ya as well! On another note, I find it amazing how fast PS3's are selling off now. SaLiVa
I bought a PS3 from eBay recently. One from a shoddy buyer and another (For roughly the same price) from a legit top seller. Always go for the top sellers and always ask questions before buying from a low rated person. I was lucky that I was refunded my money, but you can never be too careful. So long as you aren't buying any i7's from Newegg, then you should be fine :p Hope you'll have lots of fun with your new PS3 as I am, just a list of games you might be interested in: Final Fantasy XIII inFamous (Don't let the title fool you) Uncharted God of War Collections (And if you can afford it now, God of War III) LittleBigPlanet (I haven't personally gotten "into" this game yet) ___GiRiBoY___ 1 Share
