Here's a deal that Sam Fisher would come out of hiding for: Amazon is offering pre-orders of Splinter Cell: Conviction for Xbox 360 at the low price of $46.99 for the standard edition. All you need to do in order to get the discount is enter the code SPLINTER at checkout and $5 will be deducted from your total (the retailer is selling the game at an already-discounted $51.99 to begin with). Additionally, the coupon code also works on the PC version, if that's how you like to roll. If you liked the recently-released demo and are looking to get your hands dirty with the full-version, it's the best deal we've seen yet.

Yes, it might seem a little too easy, but we have Third Echelon's assurance that this isn't some sort of elaborate trap. (The "security device" enclosed? Totally not a tracking beacon.)

Something for the yankies for a change :p

Looks like a good deal. After playing the demo, which was pretty cool (but ridiculously short), I'll probably stick to my original plan and just rent it from gamefly.

surprising quote:

Eh, if you've tried it in the demo you know how it works.

As I've already said before: Silly story (more 24 than 24), mark and execute makes things too easy, it's more linear than before and it's only 6 hours long. Don't get me wrong it's a good game put the yellow-journalism makes it seem better than it is. Worth a rent if you're buying it for single player. I wouldn't recommend buying it.

From what I understand the cover system is extremely fluid with the gameplay, you do not stick to walls and what not like in Mass Effects cover system. Simply put, if you are close to an object and are holding the cover button, Sam will take cover behind it, but he does not stick to it, you can move away from it without issue even while holding the cover button.

On top of that, there is a "last known" feature, where enemies will focus on a position they last saw you in. So if you were ducking behind cover when they last saw you, they will focus on that cover until they see you elsewhere. This means you can (for example) jump out a building, shimmy around the side of it to another window, and enemies will still be focused on the window you jumped out of, allowing you to ambush them from your new position.

Add that into a fluid cover system and its no surprise that it is one of the best around IMO.

I read it was 7 hours single player and 3 hours co-op.

Wouldn't surprise me, I blitzed through a co-op level almost solo online. Like I was saying. Mark & Execute turns Y in to an IWIN button.

My mate recons that he did the single player in 3 hours, and thinks that he could speed run it in just over an hour

Yeah, single player campain is stupidly short. Co-op isn't much longer either. Not sure how it's getting the scores it's getting to be honest.

Can't trust any reviews any more. :(

Did you hear what Ubisoft did for those who reviewed Assassins Creed 2? Flew them to Italy. ****ing italy for a 'review'.

It's really unacceptable to have a game be so easy and so short. I was really looking forward to it, and maybe it's fun. But it's no longer a "buy" for me.

I just put in my order for this. I'm not sure if Amazon.ca ever had the same promotion as the US Amazon (and even if they did, it would have ended by now), but I got the Collector's Edition for $60 CDN, which isn't too bad, I suppose. Funny, Amazon.ca has the collector's edition and the regular edition priced exactly the same. I took a look at my friend's Collector's Edition, and it looks like a bunch of stuff I'll never use (a small case, a light-up coaster, a headlamp and a possibly-defective USB drive), but hey, I'm not paying anything extra for it :).

Shame about the game being easier than the previous instalments. From the Giant Bomb review, it doesn't sound like this is the kind of game that a player is going to come back to when they're done, so maybe I'll just go ahead and do my first run on the hardest difficulty.

I received my gamefly copy last night. I really don't know how I feel about this game yet, but most likely because I don't think I'm playing it right. I've never played a splinter cell game before, so maybe that's it. But I'm just playing this game similar to how I play other stealth game or stealth levels in games. But I keep dying. I played for about 2.5 hrs last night and only got to finish the

Iraq

level. And it's because I keep dying or I keep restarting the level because I get frustrated, mostly because

1. I try to go through the levels as much as possible without shooting. But there are some levels like the last part of the museum level that seems impossible to do without shooting. Am I missing something here?

2. I can't get used to the controls for the life of me. Maybe because I'm a typical console player? But I always seem to try to hit the left trigger to aim, and I still can't get used to uncrouching by hitting LB, so if I'm trying to vanish I find myself getting shot because I'm trying to run but always forget to hit LB to un-crouch

Any pointers would be appreciated

The game seems to aim more to taking out all the guys on your path rather than sneaking around them. You're more or less supossed to take them out one by one or in groups of 3/4 if you can mark and execute :p

The best Splinter Cell game is Chaos Theory with Splinter Cell 1 being a close second. Everything else is average. Conviction is more about action than real stealth.
