A console virgin, no more. Got a PS3, need game suggestions!

Recommended Posts

Today's the day I stop being a solely PC-only gamer. A good friend of mine surprised me with a slim PS3 120 GB as a belated birthday gift. :woot:

I'll see myself using this more for movies, but I wouldn't mind dabbling into some games on this side of the gaming world. What are some good first picks I should go with now, old or new? These days I play Valve's two shooters (Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2) on the PC most of the time, so some FPS picks would be good.

Bad Company 2, but please, don't buy COD- at least MW2 anyway.

You should go for exclusives- Killzone 2, inFAMOUS, Uncharted 2, Metal Gear Solid 4 (though you must plat the previous games!), God of War 3 (or the God of War Trilogy to get all the games in one) and look out for Gran Turismo 5 if you're into racing games as much as I and Audioboxer is.

I cannot recommend Uncharted 2 enough. Go buy it now.

Oh no you didn't... pinch.gif

Get a 360 to balance it out.

Oh, snap. rm20010 + PS3 = :o

My friend let me borrow his 2nd Xbox 360 (indefinitely) so I'm back to console gaming too. :p

Anyway, here are some titles I strongly recommend:

  • God of War III (get God of War I/II as well)
  • Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (if your PC isn't powerful enough to handle it)
  • Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
  • Killzone 2

Just a bit of warning though. It takes awhile to get used to a console FPS. You don't have the precision of a mouse and keyboard.

He does PC gaming as well. Why the hell would he gimp himself with a console version of Bad Company 2?

I know he asked for FPS but seriously man... Only FPS games you should play on console if you have a gaming PC are console exclusives like Killzone 2 or M.A.G.

Lots of threads on this topic. I'd suggest reading through them. :p

You should also try out Resistance 1 and 2.

If you're into racing games I'd also give Burnout Paradise a rental just to try it out.

Rental? You could probably buy the game for that price

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll probably look at the exclusives mentioned above; I don't plan on coming off my PC gaming habits entirely, so people like Josh can calm down :p

Any games will have to wait until post exam season, no buying any games now :p

Really? Watched my cousin play it, never been so bored in my life. All I saw was walking up to random creatures, and start "fighting" them. When I say "fighting" because you can't move, jump and all you can do is shoot lasers at it.

I have never understood the FF appeal.

  • God of War Trilogy (play I & II BEFORE GOWIII)
  • Uncharted Series (Again, play 1 before 2)
  • Heavy Rain
  • Little Big Planet
  • inFamous
  • Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction *
  • Metal Gear Solid 4
  • Killzone 2
  • Demon's Souls *
  • MAG *
  • Final Fantasy XIII

I have not played the starred ones, but have heard great things. I'm still working on FF13 (God of War took my focus away). It is a great game, with one of the best battle systems yet in the FF series.
