DrunknMunky Veteran Posted March 25, 2010 Veteran Share Posted March 25, 2010 March 25th, 2010 @ 12:20 By Patrick Garratt Bodycount boss Stuart Black has told OPM the prospect of revisiting his Criterion shooter, Black, is now an impossibility. ?To me it?s kind of like a band,? said the developer, speaking in the now-with-subs issue 43. ?When we made Black there were certain people, key members of the team, who formed the core band. There are a lot of those people that are working with us now, but there are others who aren?t. ?Even if we wanted to, we couldn?t make Black 2 in exactly that way, because those people aren?t there.? Black released for PS2 in 2006. EA told the mag it?s ?always flattered? by requests for a sequel, but that Criterion is now focused on Need for Speed. Black is now heading up the newly-founded Codemasters Guildford, developing Bodycount, a new FPS IP. OPM?s got a stonking feature on Bodycount in its latest issue, so be sure to pick it up. http://www.vg247.com/2010/03/25/black-we-couldnt-make-black-2/#more-87200 Gutted :/ Always hoped they'd come back to it one day
Smigit
Eh? Every game sequel surely has staff member changes between titles, Criterion games included. How is fresh staff necessarily a bad thing anyway? If anything it may be an opportunity to gather new ideas. Sure it won't be the exact same game but big whoop, you still have a good amount of the team still there.

+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted March 25, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted March 25, 2010 Never heard of this game...did I miss out? IMHO yes. It was a good FPS and also managed to get a lot of rich graphical detail out of last-gen hardware...
Growled Member Posted March 25, 2010 Member Share Posted March 25, 2010 I find it hard to believe that there won't be a sequel a some point in time.
ViperAFK
For some reason I never picked this up when I had a ps2, it looked like quite an interesting game.
LOC Veteran Posted March 25, 2010 Veteran Share Posted March 25, 2010 I picked this up for $5 at Gamestop since it is backwards comp. with the 360, and man it was a great little shooter. For the era (2006 lol) and the systems it was on (PS2/Xbox) the game looked DAMN good. And the destruction was also quite amazing as well. I'm pretty sure they could still make a sequel to Black is they wanted to. I sure wish they would, I can just imagine Black 2 on current gen hardware or PC (yeah, right lol) it would rock! Unrealistic
Well that's slightly disappointing.
goji
One of the most amazing games almost no one played. Lack of MP probably did it in for many. I would hope to god that they re-release the game with higher resolution textures and modeling with AA. Great game, great score, weapons balance though funky story. Loved it. I really enjoyed the game as well, but I felt it was too short and the end fight with protagonist was ridiculous, all you had to do was shoot at windows and you get a confirmation that you killed him? And the game was short which was a disappointment. The best thing was the graphics, there were so many destructible items that it was great to just shoot around, and the graphics were beautiful, and I played on the PS2. Wish there was a sequel, would really like to know what the story was all about, which was the confusing bit of the game :( . Scirwode
+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted March 26, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted March 26, 2010 I remember playing Black - and I honestly didn't like it. The graphics and effects were great looking and it all felt well-made. But the game as no fun to play. Very short levels.
