Directory Listing

Question

Hi guys,

I was just wondering if there was something out there that would suit my needs, it's a long shoot, but I have nothing to lose by asking. Basically, I am a student who wishes to provide an easy to use directory listing/file manager system for the school, because the better the school performs, the better the results for the individual. So just basically a place for notes (.doc/.pdf). I was wondering if there was anything out there that would allow people to 'preview' these documents before downloading them (I think Gmail has this feature, by clicking 'View as HTML'), as well as some sort of upload/member system. Due to the 'funny kids' at school, of course if I just password protected the directory, somehow or another people from other schools would get the password. As well as if I had an upload system, it would have some sort of 'pending' to be checked by the admin/s to make sure it's not rubbish.

Anything like this out there, or am I getting ahead of myself? I just think this would reduce the hassle for me immensely if I have to personally check each file via email, or make an account for each person, upload the files myself... and so forth. Thank you in advance.

Mak

This should run on what system/language and via which client/protocol? Do you have some existing framework or management system installed...?

For directory listing, it's just simple file loop. In any language it can be done with sinle line of code. For previewing, well it's just matter of running some premade converter or using library/module.

Hi Gocom,

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure what system/language, anything that works really. I'm not going to code it, just was hoping if there was something around that you can put on your website, such as evoluted's directory listing script, but suitable to my needs of course. And no, I don't have any management system.
