liar2
There have been several threads created about this topic already. I recently started running my own ftp server. There are several ways to go about creating one. Personally, I use serv-u ftp server. It was the only program that I could get working that met my needs. There are others such as bulletproof ftpserver, RaidenFTPD, etc. It's quite simple, unless you're behind a router. If you are behind a router, you will have to set up passive mode, which can be a pain if you don't know what you are doing... Any other questions, just PM me. IP
Since you have Windows XP Pro, you could install the IIS that came with the CD, but it requires some configuration... To install this...just pop in your windows cd into your computer, click on install additional windows components and select "Internet Information System(IIS)". Note: IIS may not be for newbies If want a easier to use software, then download the G6 FTP server...i think they call it BPFTP Server now...just search it up on download.com, I am sure they have it there too. +John Teacake MVC Posted June 28, 2003 MVC Share Posted June 28, 2003 How come there is a problem when using a router ?
liar2
just configuration issues. if you don't set up passive mode, then most people will have problems connecting. and if you have a router, you must set up port forwarding to the computer running the server. it's quite simple, but for people who don't really know what to do, it can be a pain. ToastGodSupreme
About passive mode... Actually, I run WinXP Pro, I'm behind a Linksys router, and I run G6 (BulletProof FTP Server), passive mode DISABLED. I have had only ONE person have problems connecting to my server. Anyone else is easily able to connect. I found that setting up passive mode was actually a pain in the butt. :p But yeah. Just a little experience I've had... liar2
I had too many problems with G6 myself... Passive mode wouldn't work, neither would port. No matter what I did. Serv-u works just great for me. Hell, I even ran filezilla server for a bit, and that worked alright.

MxxCon
I get this: 530 PORT command only accepts client IP address. LIST 550 List failed. No port specified. List Complete: 0 bytes in 0.64 (1.00 KBps) this is becuase YOUR client is sending wrong ip with port command, it's not exactly ceminess' fault. however ceminess' server is configured to disable fxp transfers, also mislabled as "bounce attack", that's why you get that error message. MxxCon
other than IIS which is complete **** for ftp. if you proprely configure them, no server should have "problems connecting with passive"
ceminess
okay well i am going to test it on my friends computer when i get the chance, and make sure it is not just my computer/network. but when using (flashfxp) and connecting to my server i would get a data socket error after the passive stage. so i went into my options for flashfxp and unchecked passive and everything went smooothly.
