Memory Upgrade

Recommended Posts

I was looking at local kijiji website and saw one of the posting where a guy was selling a used RAM of a company I've never heard of

I'm planning to buy PC5300 2GB 200-pin

Here's the link to the official website :

K-Byte

I've tried finding any sort of review but couldn't really get any.

Thus I'm posting out here and hope to get help.

Also attached is the picture of the RAM that he uploaded on Kijiji

Link

Thanks. :)

I've seen that brand in many different computers over the years, but can't really comment on quality. They've been computers I've worked before, but nothing really recently.

No, absolutely not. You can get 2GB of good name brand RAM on Newegg for what that kijijiji guy is asking for his cheap quality memory, plus you get the warranty and guaranteed great service. If you prefer though I'm sure you can also find similar deals on Tigerdirect or other sites, but I would not go with that K-byte stuff myself. :)

I was not really planning to shell out 50$ for the RAM, the guy is asking 25$ for it thus I was considering it. Also, I need one 2GB RAM and not two 1GBs.

Thanks for the comments :)

I must have found the wrong page then. For $25 sure, it might be fine. What few reviews I could find on k-byte said they used lower quality chips, but some people said it worked ok. Personally I'd feel more comfortable with a more trustworthy brand.

Went to the website, and notice they had not updated their site since 2007. Hence, as TRC indicated it is not a good idea. Also, the all their ram is a little dated. Best fine another brand. Good Luck.

I personally would never go for used RAM. Memory is probably the most common hardware fault these days, so you need one with a long, preferably very long warranty.

  • 2 weeks later...

I prefer to get Apacer memory; all my computers use it and everything works beautifully well. It isn't well known but it is very reliable.
