Max_Payne_UK
The map pack for MW2 is a blatant rip off. Some DLC however does expand a game and is worthy of the price. DICE/EA are doing it right though and releasing all DLC for free. This is how it should be.

Let's not confuse DICE (and, let's not forget, Criterion) with EA as a whole, the masters of the microtransaction, the kings of unlocking DLC that was already on disc, the sultans of skins..... Starbuck84
Depends on the DLC, but the map pack for MW2 is quite a rip-off if you ask me. Don't get me wrong, the maps might look nice and play nice, but the price is just too high compared to the retail price of the game. (No, that's not an excuse to make games more expensive dear developers :-P). But the DLC for Forza3 (which I love to death) is great and not all that expensive. DLC in itself is a great idea to extend the life of any game, but most of the time you can download crazy tee's for your character or music packs which aren't that worthy to begin with. It's a shame really.
Pablo2008jedi
I've never bought DLC, as I see it as just a way of the companys exploiting me for more money. If the DLC is released very early on, I just think they withdraw it from the game to "cash in".
red.
As with many of you guys, i don't mind DLC when it extends the life of the game but i do find it annoying when the content is available at launch or slightly afterwards which makes it obvious that they planned it from the start when it could have easily been included with the main game. BTW, i think this topic should be moved to the general Gamer's Hangout.
AbandonedTrolley
As people say, some DLC is worthy of the price tag. Wipeout Fury being one of them IMHO. Others like outfits for LBP and Uncharted 2 and suchlike I feel are a total ripoff. Map Packs are a bit of a grey area I feel, depending on the time frame of release you can argue if they should or shouldn't have been included in the original game. I have all the map packs for Killzone 2 and thought they were great additions to the multi player. MW2 just seem's highly overpriced to me though. Max_Payne_UK
It's more the price of the MW2 maps that annoys me. I'm not so bothered on the time frame it takes for them to be released but I do get annoyed when you only are downloading a 50KB sized file to unlock what is already on the disc you have purchased. I'm still mad about the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 suddenly being removed because it "expired". I really liked that game but that killed the multiplayer scene. They even removed the compatibility packs. The day I decided to buy it, it was already gone :(
Osirus23
Exactly. Game is out March 1st, April 1st OH WOW LOOK DLC! Hey that's a whole month later. A lot of games have DLC available on release day. I won't buy any of it. If the original game doesn't have enough content to justify its $60.00 price tag I'll give it a pass.
Bhav
I've only bought Burnout Paradise DLC...the Criterion guys really did an amazing job with the game. The DLC was well priced and genuinely added a lot of extra content way beyond the masses it started with at release. Even more credit to them for releasing all the DLC as a bundle at a knockdown price (which is when I bought it) - ?16 for the entire lot. I've spent so many hours on that game and haven't even started the new island.

The Teej
That's just wrong, DLC should enhance a game after its released, and I mean a long time after. It shouldn't be a "feature" of a game. That depends - if it's DLC in a similar fashion to GTA's Lost and the Damned, except it comes out before the game, I quite like the idea of that. It basically allows you to try out the game and have a fully fledged story (albeit a short one) from start to finish for a comparatively small fee. If you like it, then you know you're going to really like the full game and are comfortable paying for it. If you like it, but not enough to warrant paying ?40 to play it a whole lot more, then that's okay, as you've had enough of a taste to satisfy your needs and you've only paid a fraction of the cost to play an adequate amount you would have played anyway. Plus, you've still supported the developer as opposed to going down the rent/re-sale route, which does hurt developers. If you don't like it, then well, that's a shame. If people are still opposed to the idea they can still always wait for the free demo or just borrow a friend's copy to try it out. It also adds a bit of hype if done right - imagine a game like Bad Company 2, where people are really clamouring to get their hands on it. Instead of waiting a month or two, they can get their hands on a sample level which doesn't have anything to do with the main game, but offers a level of quality like you'll see in the main games later on, then it's going to really ramp up your excitement. Pablo2008jedi
I'm sorry, but DLC to me is an enhancement to a currently released game. Any DLC that is released before a release is a pay for demo/trial imo. But thats just me, I've never purchased DLC in my life and I don't intend to, I just don't beleive in it. Either release the game with all content or wait till a sequel.

Tharp Daddy
I, personally, like BioWares approach to DLC in Mass Effect, they give free mini-dlc through the "Cerberus Network" and then they have large purchased DLC now and then.
Pablo2008jedi
Surely though enhancing a game is a good thing? It can be, but for me its depends on cost and the enhancement and so far in my 2 years of owning a PS3 and had serveral games that end up with DLC I have purchased none  But that's cause I don't have that type of free flowing cash and I have to save for the next game :p
Tharp Daddy
Even if I was a gamer I would never, ever pay for DLC. It's such a rip-off, that makes me so mad that often the material is on the disc and they basically charge you to unlock it. How is this legal in a way?? You paid for the disc, not for them to lock some of it and force you to pay for it. Vote with your wallets - if everyone refused to buy DLC then they wouldn't bother and it'd be free. It's the suckers that pay for it that encourage these scams. No, if people did not buy DLC they would not make it. We would have the same games, but in the case of games like Halo, Borderlands, Mass Effect 2 and the such we would only get to play what they release, it would have no lifespan extension through DLC. Kickin686
My example..... PS3 Dante's Inferno.... Soul packs: Total rip. Costumes: cost to much. Relics Pack: Cost to much plus you can only use 2-4 at any given time and there are loads of these! Map Pack: Lost Forest: this is very short and cost way to much. I will admit they gave me the Lost forest Pack free Via code and one soul pack was free but the lost forest is over in the blink of an eye at $4.99 and you can get 500 souls with a few kills. lol Other than that i didn't feel they where worth money. I have a question about all these nifty DLC too. so years.. and years later when Sony decides to shut down its servers and our hard drive dies in the PS3. .. So are we stuck with an unpatched game (with possible bugs) and all of our DLC stuff Kaput? I guess that just kinda makes me wonder where all that extra cash is going when its not in a physical Disc for me to play anymore. I probably could have said this all a bit better... maybe some will understand where i'm coming from.
