Crytek has claimed that it's NewYork-based FPS sequel Crysis 2 will bring an unbeatable new visual quality to the PS3

The console has been spolit in recent months with Killzone 2, Uncharted 2 and God of War III each setting new graphical standards. However, lead Playstation 3 programmer Michael Gl?ck is confident that Crysis 2 will exceed anything that has gone before.

"With each generation of game titles on PS3, usually every 2 years, the games improve significantly in its quality, mostly showing off in graphics," Gl?ck told Play Magazine. "I think with Crysis 2 you will see the quality bar being set at a very high level that games will struggle to excel. We?re aiming to set a whole new benchmark with that game for all PS3 games."

The Crytek dev doesn't think that there will be much room for improvement in future games either. "Still with an AAA title shipped on PS3, you get the chance to improve further, so the next game developed with CryEngine 3 after Crysis 2 on PS3 will not be worse and rather be more polished and have higher quality in all areas. However, it is unlikely to see a major improvement in graphics as we try to not cut any graphical feature and rather optimize it until it becomes feasible. So I expect more density of game elements, physic effect, more interaction, but the major graphics quality will not be significantly improved."

The original Crysis was a PC powerhouse which looked so great that gamers willingly upgraded PCs and graphics cards just to play it. Check out the recent Crysis 2 screens to see what you think, and look out for our preview on the game soon...

Don't companies always saw crap like this?

Sad marketing-speak is all it is.

Someone always comes along and makes a graphically superior game.

Not sure why all the hate, as I happen to think it is a very good game.

I also played it about two years after it was released, so I believe I did not suffer from the hype and expectations when it was first released, and I also had a comp capable of running it no issues when I tried it (still not on high settings).

To me Crysis was the true spiritual successor to Far Cry, which I absolutely loved (minus the end), so Crysis was great to me as well. AI was a tad questionable at time, and the story was cheese at some points, but as far as the gameplay, I really enjoyed it, and neither game was really about story to me, it was about approaching an open area how you wanted, not on a linear path.

From the article:

I didn't realize there were any Crysis 2 shots to look at. The only pictures I've seen so far have been pre-renders.

Still, it's cool to see Crysis 2 coming to consoles. Honestly, I'm a sucker for beautiful games, and I'll probably end up playing through it even if it's average. :).

so the PS3 can run Crysis ... , well Crysis 2 , but nonetheless...?

Different engine. Someone did a side to side comparison and shown the graphical flaws.

+1

I played it after it was released and recently, and I have to say, it's one of my favorite first-person shooters. It and Half-Life 2 really set the standard in my eyes. The second one looks to alleviate a lot of the faults with the original, too, so I really have little to complain about.

I also don't understand all the hate on Crysis. Both PC games were fantastic in my opinion, and received favorable press critique. The Cry games have never been about bringing you the most intense hardcore shooter action, it's been about bringing beautiful and detailed sandbox to cater to all playstyles, which can bore some people I guess. WARHEAD was slightly different as it had a more "action/chaos" theme to it, but you were by no means forced to play that way the whole game. Also, their primary focus has always been single-player, so that does not always stroke everyone the right way.

Far Cry (Press Avg 8.8)

Crysis (Press Avg 9.0)

Crysis WARHEAD (Press Avg 8.5)

I usually agree with most of the IGN reviews and they gave both games a 9.4 (hanging in there with the big boys like Halo 3 - 9.5, Killzone 2 - 9.4, and Modern Warfare 2 - 9.5), but basing them off of one site isn't really fair. Crytek has always in front of the pack with its technology (and by in front, I mean waaaaay in front, people are barely catching up 3+ years later), and similarly has always brought very polished gunplay. Their games usually suffer from weak stories and unreliable AI with non-human enemies, but still provide a great experience (assuming your system could handle it). Hopefully the new CryEngine 3.0 will be able to bring this great game to even more people to taste it first hand. They haven't talked much about Crysis 2 multiplayer, but if they were to produce a really addicting multiplayer, they would absolutely blow people away. I'll admit though I wasn't a huge fan of their previous multiplayer attempts, though Crysis Wars was a great improvement over previous attempts, maybe they will pull out something special this time.

Title is misleading, the developer said it'll beat any other game out today, and Crysis 2 leaves little room for improvement in terms of graphical quality - but no where does he say C2 will hit a graphical ceiling or anything along those lines. He even goes far as to say AAA titles could go further, just not by much.

I'm with Larry on this one. I happened to love this game but I also got it on release day. For me I liked the fact it was gonna bench my new PC and also for the fact that the suit sold thgame to me. I like being able to go invisible walk up behind someone grab them by the throw and fling them across the map so to say. Also love how it plays.

Gameplay is important to me and I'll be getting crysis 2 release day but I do have to say I did love crysis more after I got the maximum edition with warhead and wars.

Also afaik the so called "hype" was that it was gonna be a benchmarker and totally different from any other game which I believe on PC it was totally different then any other game.
