Modern Warfare 3 Being Held Up By Legal Confrontation

Recommended Posts

The legal stoush between publishers Activision and former Infinity Ward bosses Jason West and Vince Zampella isn't just giving us all some entertaining reading. It's also holding up development of Modern Warfare 3.

The court documents surrounding the case, released earlier today, show that one of Activision's main complaints is that West and Zampella's attempts to secede from Activision and form a new "spin-off" studio is "delaying pre-production of Modern Warfare 3", and that this delay is being used as "leverage in their negotiations with Activision".

Further, the case also says that "as a direct and proximate result of this breach of the covenant of good faith and fair dealing, Activision has been forced to commit additional resources to Modern Warfare 3".

Regardless of who is left at Infinity Ward by the time the game does enter into production, you can rest assured, Activision is intent on bringing you at least one more Modern Warfare title.

You seem to have found a passion for Modern Warfare these past 24 hours, Gavin.

It's what is dominating the headlines, what can I say.

Plus Activision tends to get hits, so if I was being paid like the great front page gaming news reporters I'd be rolling in the dollarz.

Welcome to the world of business and gaming?

Another similar situation comes to mind: people shocked when M$, Apple, etc. for immediately starting the next OS rather then sitting around for a while.

Cash milking business. Good, original games take more than 6 months to develop.

Show me where it says MW3 is due for release soon

You guys need to realise, that working game sequels ( Planning phase or actual development ) starts very early on.

You have a point but apparently they are going to be ready to show it off next month to the masses, in magazine print as well which gets produced weeks before selling

Looks like it might end up a re-skin with rocket boots or something else copied from Halo

And who says that isn't the supposed Treyarch title or the "Unknown" developer title? doesn't have to be MW3 - We have to remember, there's now 3 Call of Duty titles in development

and the Treyarch title has been in development since World at War, give or take a few months.

I know, for Activision you can make 3 titles in 1 year

Nah I think it will be whatever is releasing as the main flagship title this fall, that being COD7 aka MW3.

CoD "7" isn't MW3, CoD "7" is Treyarch's next game which is rumoured to be some variable-era kind of deal - MW3 is going to be CoD "8" or "9" ( This **** is getting confusing )

It's definitely Treyarch's project they are showing off next.

Ah right, I thought Treyarch were making the next MW game, and yeah it is getting confusing at times....

When is the next MW planned for then, next year?

Well I hope the mystery project is a Wii game or something portable, cause I have no idea how they can support 3 "next gen" system releases in the space of 1~2 years.

It'll probably be a COD MMO though.

After buying MW2 and playing it on my X360, I will not be buying another MW game or CoD game for a long time. Anything with Treyarch is going to be a re-skined POS (note CoD:WaW) and anything with a CoD:MMO that you have to pay for is another POS. Hopefully when IW is resurrected as a new independent company, with a different name, they will go back to their MW1 roots and make something as fun and enjoyable as that. Until then **** you Activision and the whole CoD series.

should just cancel the franchise then reboot it with different devs/mind behind production or different publishers. I certainly won't be bothering with next one.

Original:

"Among other things, they delayed pre-production of Modern Warfare 3 and attempted to improperly leverage their rights under the MOU to obtain further advantages for themselves and concessions from Activision."

Kotaku:

Spot the difference. Sensationalism 4THARWIN right?

edit: Playing nice today

They did that once when they went from Medal of Honor Allied Assault to Call of Duty :)
