Mini-DisplayPort to DVI

Recommended Posts

I just ordered this LG monitor as an external display for my early 2009 Aluminum Macbook: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005142

I know I have to purchase a "Mini-DisplayPort to DVI" adapter, but all of the information I can find about transmitting audio from Macbook to display deals with the Mini-DisplayPort to DVI to HDMI setup, for larger HDTVs; and those sources mention a separate cable hook-up for audio. I don't plan on connecting my Macbook through the HDMI input (I don't know why I would), so I'll be staying simple with the DVI input.

Do I still need a separate cable for sound, or will the DVI adapter take care of this? If I do need separate cables for audio, what would I need?

I'm sure someone on this forum has posted about this before, and I apologize for potentially repeating this topic, but I'm just not up for digging around the forum, tonight.

I do appreciate any information you guys have on this!

Thanks,

Emily

DVI is video only so you'd need a separate cable of some sort. Does that LCD have speakers? If it does then it'd come with a plug (green) that'll cover audio but if not then you'll need to buy some speakers or use the inbuilt ones.
