Spookie
Ex-Infinity Ward bosses Vince Zampella and Jason West sign with EA. New studio to be called Respawn Entertainment. Wow. Richard Hammond
So they moved from one barsteward of a company to an even bigger barsteward of a company? This cant end well.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 12, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted April 12, 2010 EA is probably the best place they could go, EA haters can go eat a drawer of socks, EA have been doing very well as of late, publishing unique titles and listening to gamers (Bad Company not being neutered). MS and/or Sony fanboys can GTFO also these guys have talent multiplatform wise, and it's good they've stayed like that. Hopefully they don't get sued successfully though. And the ironic thing is all the drama between EA and Activision as Activision didn't want to let EA publish Brutal Legend, even although Activision kicked the franchise
jelli
To be fair it's the best way they could stick two fingers up at Activision. Interested in seeing what they come up with, hopefully EA gives them some freedom unlike sequel pushing Activision.
Spookie
So EA now have: Battlefield, Medal of Honour and Call of Duty MKII? Oh snap. :|

esaleris
I find it hard to beleive that Activision didn't have them sign a non-compete. Maybe the game developer world is different than the worlds I'm familiar with...

Digital Tonic
EA haters can go eat a drawer of socks Why? Look at what they did to Command & Conquer 4. I'd rather have seen them head to ZeniMax. EA and Activision are both as bad as each other. What's with the name anyway? Respawn Entertainment... Sounds like a kids YouTube channel.
Crompee
They probably did with Infinity Ward hence the new company. Who gets control of the CoD ip? Infinity Ward has control of the CoD ip, meaning Activision has the rights to it. The new company will have to start from scratch. I'm a EA Hater but this isnt really a bad thing, those two bosses have proven they can make alot of money and make awesome games, also that EA have given them there own new studio to work from/with instead of integrating them into an existing studio. So even though they've gone to EA, its highly likely EA will give them the money and freedom they want as long as they deliver high quality/selling games. Massiveterra
Not sure what their contract entails, but I'm pretty sure West and Zampella aren't stupid and have ridiculously expensive lawyers to review their contract with EA. With that said, EA is gonna be the go-to company for shooters for the next 5 years until gamers realize that "modern war" games aren't cool anymore

Spookie
Interesting, seeing comments posted on other forums on what to expect: Jason Rubin:"...would they as 4 guys in a recently broken up company, get the ability to make a triple A title? And I can tell you with absolute certainty, that the answer to that question is a resounding, NO.." "Jason Rubin acrimoniously leaves Naughty Dog, exits industry for a few years, comes back, starts a startup, complains loudly and frequently that publishers aren't handing him AAA contracts on a silver platter, asserts that anyone who leaves a major studio is going to be screwed long and hard... ... despite literally DOZENS of startups being given big-time funding this generation, run by people vastly less qualified and less talented than him, suggesting that maybe him burning bridges wasn't a great idea, and maybe he needs to play the game a little better if he wants to get ahead." It is interesting to see what they come up with now they have a completely blank sheet to start again. Though I'd imagine they'll play it safe to bring in the money. Yusuf M. Veteran Posted April 12, 2010 Veteran Share Posted April 12, 2010 The way I see it, EA is the lesser of two evils. And I expected them to start a new company. Still, signing with EA comes as a surprise to me.
etempest
So if founders get the full rights to COD Series, they could have it published under EA. That be a blow to activision.
Draken
I don't buy garbage games. you've played: Medal of Honor all Call of Duty Series Both Bad Company games Garbage was only a way of saying it, they went to EA this time, but they can go to Lucifer Interactive and we will end playing their games, that was my point. Crompee
So if founders get the full rights to COD Series, they could have it published under EA. That be a blow to activision. I'd be highly doubtful that the 'founders' would get the full rights to the CoD series. As the rights would legally belong to the Infinity Ward company which is a part of Activision, so Activision would keep the rights.
Massiveterra
Activision keeps all of the rights to the COD series and the rights to the MW series belongs to Infinity Ward, not West and Zempella
