Cofounders leave Blizzard North

Blizzard North's three cofounders and Bill Roper leave the studio that created Diablo to pursue other opportunities.

According to a Reuters report, four key figures at Blizzard North have "resigned from the company to pursue other opportunities." Blizzard Entertainment told Reuters that the Blizzard North cofounders Erich Schaefer, Max Schaefer, and David Brevik, plus Blizzard vice president Bill Roper, recently left the company. The report also quotes a VU Games executive as saying that Vivendi Universal's public efforts to sell its game division, including Blizzard, has had some effect on employee morale.

Brevik and the Schaefer brothers founded a development company called Condor in 1993, and started developing Diablo for Blizzard in early 1995. The studio was renamed Blizzard North when Blizzard acquired Condor in February 1996.

Hmm, this sucks. Now I wonder what will happen with Diablo 3 if anything was even planed?... Its gona be a little weird to see diablo 3 released under a different company name. Anyways, I just hope for the best. I'm a Blizzard fan, cuz of Starcraft and Diablo series.

it could be a good thing tho. The creators of Diablo series, might be just more fee to make more games, instead of doing only what blizzard wants. I hope its for the best honestly, I hate to see a good company fall. :(

Those are very sad news. They claim how those change will not make any delay to their games in prgrs. (WoW, SC: Ghost) but I can`t belive it because they`ve lost really great guys which where in charge for all theirs great products...

Good to know they're making their own company, though, even if I wasn't a huge fan of Blizzard games.

Also -- Bill said that Blizzard is currently developing multiple (unannounced) titles, and Blizzard North has two in production. I assume this means that Diablo III and StarCraft II are in production. Heck, if they haven't started the development by now they're crazy.

A lot of people don't like Warcraft III.

You know ... the usual complaints like

1) The graphics stink

2) Too easy

blah blah blah

And others don't like the fact that they (Blizzard) are doing everything solely for WC3 and not for other games.

as a long time blizzard fan (warcraft, no II no III just warcraft :D )

they seem to have a pattern release one game every 3/4 years

expansion, then move on to next game.

sad to see those guys go, but it can only mean good things for us.

Thats alright, I'm pretty much set with Blizzard right now. I got Warcraft 3 and the new Frozen Throne expansion...so that should last me for about another year or so. :D
