madmunky Posted August 24, 2001 Share Posted August 24, 2001 Found my first game which does'nt work under XP , download the demo and after the install it says this games does not support windows 2000 and when you try and run it, it dumps you back to the desktop! Download the DX8 drivers for Win2000 and stick the d3d8.dll file from it in the Red Faction folder and it works gr8 on Nvidia cards. +ir0nw0lf Subscriber² Posted August 25, 2001 Subscriber² Share Posted August 25, 2001 Red Faction demo ran FINE for me on my Win2K box at work with N-O fixes/hacks/tricks, so that fix is not automatically needed simply because you are running Win2k, please get that straight :-). I have seen a dozen sites that said you HAVE to use this fix if you have Win2k. Check the game first before you do this, please. My Win2k box at work is a Celeron 600, 512MB, Win2k, GF2 MX200 32MB. madmunky Posted August 25, 2001 Author Share Posted August 25, 2001 I have both win2k and winxp on my machine and RF runs fine under win2k so it is somethink to do with XP! both use the same graphics drivers but I think your find XP has a different version of DirectX!
