pimpshiznid
Ok, I just recently moved into a new town and I have the opportunity for cable internet, so I opted and got it started. So they are coming to install Wed, and I had a few questions. On my contract, I checked the option for 512k x 128k cable monthly for $39.95. Does this mean I am guaranteed 512k a second download? Did I get a good price on cable internet? Thanks for any replies.
Night Prowler
You?re not guaranteed anything. Read your contract. All ISP's over subscribe, that how they make their money. Don't allow them to put therir crap CD software on your system. The only thing you need to do is select obtain IP automatically from your TCP/IP settings and your online. Get a firewall. I'd suggest a cheap linksys (BEFSR42) and you can network at least 4 systems. Edited July 1, 2003 by Night Prowler
pimpshiznid
Ok, well, can I get a round about estimate for how fast it'll be?
Marshall Veteran Posted July 1, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 1, 2003 You never can tell, it might be slightly higher than their standard figure, or way lower. If you're used to dial-up internet, you'll be pleased regardless!
bfoos
512 kbps (kilobits per second) translates to about 64 kilobytes a second and your 128 upload is 16 kilobytes per second.
