+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 14, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted April 14, 2010 Hi, Just wanted to let you know that the guys at Cambridge studios are working really hard to develop some great new features for PlayTV. The next update for PlayTV is due later this year but testing of some of the new features has already begun. I don't want to give too much away and spoil the surprise but a little hint to one of the new features is thatPlayTV will have links to the worlds most popular social network site, Facebook. Other great enhancements to PlayTV and brand new features will also be included in the update. As soon as these exciting new features are ready for you I'll give you all the details here on the blog. Hope you are enjoying your PlayTV on your PS3. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to add them and I'll be back on here on Monday to answer as many as I can. I look forward to getting this update to you later in the year. Max_Payne_UK
:pinch: Yeah, major update. I can see Sky and Virgin crapping their pants and running off toTwitter to grab such a deal. It's a TV receiver FFS, we want things like series link and the possibility to get HD channels... not bloody Facebook!!!!

I agree but I don't think that's going to be the biggest part of the update, just one of them. HD is a no go given the type of broadcast used in the UK. I will however be more than happy to buy a new PlayTV unit should they bring one out that allows HD receiving. I think the things they need to work on are faster boot times and series link personally.

testman
Just what i want from my TV viewing apparatus, FACEBOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DVB-T2 or GTFO. As someone has already stated, DVB-T2 update is never going to happen. The hardware doesn't support it, end of. They'll have to release a completely seperate piece of hardware. PL_ Veteran Posted April 15, 2010 Veteran Share Posted April 15, 2010 Why can't DVB-T2 happen? Isn't it just a case of a different codec?

AbandonedTrolley
Why can't DVB-T2 happen? Isn't it just a case of a different codec? When PlayTV was released the UK still hadn't decided on what to use. They went against everyone else and chose DVB-T2 which means the hardware is incompatiable. I don't have an issue with buy a new box if it's around the same price again ?60. Although right now I believe there are only 3 HD channels being broadcast over the air at the moment.
