500k people polled, Results for Failure Rates - Consoles 2010

Recommended Posts

Our initial survey conducted in 2009 used a sample size of 1,000 participants. After this survey was concluded we began collecting results for our 2010 survey. As before we randomly presented a survey to visitors coming from a search engine after searching for a console specific game. After 500,000 surveys were completed for each of the three major console platforms the results were compiled as below. We used email addresses and session limiters to try and eliminate duplicate submissions. Questions were presented based on previous answers and "[console]" would have been the full name for the console. Results have been rounded to the nearest whole figure, answers are positive percentiles (yes).

So far no manufacturers have commented on the results.

UPDATE

Due to overwhelming demand in regards to questions about this survey (our PR man is pulling what's left of his hair our) - we have decided to post answers to the most frequently asked questions on this page.

Was the survey only on No Fuss Reviews?

No, it was mainly delivered from No Fuss Reviews but also other satellite sites we own.

How long was the survey conducted over?

The survey was conducted over 280 days. It started on the 7th of July 2009.

Under what criteria was the survey presented?

It was presented at a 1/3 random basis to any person who:

a) arrived at our site from any search engine looking for any console specific game

b) had not already taken the survey

How many submissions were logged?

In total we measured 512,322 submissions, we discarded submissions in our final result after the 500,000 mark.

How did you try to stop duplicate submissions?

We asked for users to enter their email address and this was stored in our database for the sole purpose of checking for duplicate submissions. We also applied a session limiter, which only allowed users to take the survey once during a browser session. Finally we used randomised cookies to store the fact a user had taken the survey again to try to prevent duplicate submissions.

If users entered a duplicate submission they were not notified.

The survey was presented in a 'lightbox' dialogue as 'opt-in'.

The survey questions were presented one at a time depending on the previous answer. IP addresses and browser versions were measured live to try and prevent 'bots' from taking the forms or predefined scripts. The survey also relied on Javascript.

You know, most 360 owners are over it already. Its become normal and honestly its too far into this generation to care anymore.

I bought my 360 in June of 2006. I am the only 360 owner that I personally know that hasn't needed a repair or replacement. I guess I'm lucky. Despite not using too much in the past year, it's still been going strong.

You are lucky.

Af all people i personally know who own a 360 (friends and co-worker for a total of about 10 people) all needed at least one repair. Mine got repaired once only but i know people who needed to send their 3 times.

I'm surprised there all as high as the stats show.

But if the Wii stats are coming from owners of Wii's who use them as much as me and my girlfriend, then there barely being used at all, and mostly for iPlayer at the moment, till Metroid: Other M comes out that is, lol.

Of course.

Can we not go into another topic that will end up on the subject of "Don't shoot the messenger" or whether we Love or Hate Audioboxer. :p

Does this really still matter to people? I know my Xbox was one of the last to still display RRoD problems. I'm expecting it to happen, as is Microsoft, hence the reason for the 3 year extended Warranty policy they added. Old Hat.

If you notice it's the failure rates for every single console, if you want to single out the Xbox from the whole article, go ahead, that's your choice, but it's the largest survey group based upon all three platforms I've seen.

It matters to me. I bought a 360 not so long ago and it's already broken once.

With this being a forum, for news and debate I'm grateful for the people who spend time posting here, so thank you Audioboxer. Not sure why people have an issue with it.

Yes. Although my new Xbox seems much better. The first one made some very strange noises

My original Xbox 360 Arcade worked up until the optical drive started going to crap. Never had an RROD on it. My replacement Xbox 360 Elite had on RROD. Got it fixed about a year ago and it's been working ever since.

My PS3 has never had to be repaired. Very reliable.

My Wii had to be replaced because of a graphics artifact, and then again because the power button wouldn't work on the replacement they sent me for the graphics glitch.

I think you're the most unlucky Wii owner I know!

Those things are like small tanks (for everyone else ).

More people brick them from homebrew modding than hardware failure!

Just a fruity guy with multiple accounts who had a tendency to suck up to AB and post in a certain way - You just reminded me of him, my apologizes if you aren't.
