500k people polled, Results for Failure Rates - Consoles 2010

They pretty much had to give an extended warranty for that problem. The failure rate was pretty high, and there was already a big class action lawsuit brewing over the issue.

Not really, they could cover any RRoD at the time for free and replace those, then with new revisions cut that down to say, 2 years?

Current jaspers or w/e the newest hardware spin is called (I lost track) doesn't have anywhere near those original 40% rates or w/e it was. Class action lawsuits aren't that simple either, you have to show that MS knowingly sent out hardware that was going to break from the get go, something which I doubt was the case. And anyway, that'd be very very hard to proove unless you've been in the factory lines watching how they built them.

hey,

the reason wii gets so low reviews is because, none of there owners haven't used them in the past year....:shiftyninja:

release date 360 still strong. release date ps3 ylod once, got repaired now its fine.

plus i doubt that 42% is accurate. sites like gametrailers are littered with ps3 fanboys that say they are on thier 5th xbox but have no gamertag.

I wont read through all the replies but I think they should have asked also "Has your console needed to be replaced in the past 12 months" or something. The problem with these polls is if you just ask "has it ever broken" you cant differentiate between older revisions and newer ones.

Not that that excuses MS's past...but given the situation has improved seeing a 40% figure for replacements likely means a lot less today than it did two or three years ago, especially to new buyers.

This falls right in line with a poll we had several months ago on neowin. So I'm not surprised. It also isn't suprising that a wii doesn't break down that often. The numbers for the ps3's are pretty good.

On my 4th Xbox 360 and 2nd PS3 from failures. I have had a PS3 half as long as my Xbox 360, so it looks like I am SOL :(

Once its out of warranty you have to pay for a repair on any product. I don't get your logic here. Its common knowledge that the Ps3 is more reliable so the chances of you having to pay out anything on it are higher than with the 360, for example.

He is probably talking about the MS product getting a 3 year warranty vs. the 1 years on the PS3.
