Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness woes and Delusions

Recommended Posts

yup, I got it already, don't ask :D

1st thing I noticed in this game is the HUGE amount of video settings, fine, nice, but WAY TOO MANY even for a tinkerer like me (check screenshot below). I bet many will be lost there before even starting the game heh

2nd thing might be driver or video card related, menus won't display at all on my Radeon 9700, getting out of the game in a proper manner is kinda acrobatic (alt+F4, press up, press enter, press enter again, Alt+F4 again while the video loads, phew done)

3rd thing, don't hope running it smoothly (>45fps) on full details above 1024*768 even with a powerhouse like mine (check my Signature to see it in details) it's a shame this averagely detailed game can't run any higher than that

4th... WHY oh WHY did they use such low quality MPEG1 movies for the intros??? it's plain FUGLY

can't tell much more about the game, playability seems fine, maybe later if I'm brave enough to play it without being able to save/load (D.A.M.N invisible menus $%*@?!!)

Holy hell, does it really only run at 45fps on a radeon 9700? Is that a soft mod radeon? I mean jeez i figure with your p4 and radeon that it would run smooth as milk

honestly, at max settings, 1024*768, 32bits, there are quite a few hiccups in the animation here and there that make it drop below 60fps

oh, and, I didn't use AA, only 4xAF

at 1280*1024 (my monitor's native resolution) it's a definitive no go, speed goes below 15fps quite often

my radeon isn't a softmodded one, it's a genuine R9700 Pro, even oc'ed it a bit

here's what the game looks like on my machine, plz note that disabling Pixel Shaders 2.0 effects is a must to boost performance at little to no visual cost

all shadows are realtime and as you can barely see on the water on the ground, environmental elements and lights do reflect on some surfaces

Maybe in a future update of the game they will fix something cause that just aint right,

Those graphics blow biggger chunks than i though...

WARNING RANT ALERT!

yeah this starting do my head in aswell with alot of the new games like splinter cell, gta vice city, enter the matrix & loads of other games that have fmv in them the quality is what i would expect from a streaming video on a 64k isdn i mean the minimum system specs for most of these games would allow for full dvd quality mpeg2 play back why oh why do they do this ?

Because they are lazy , and this is a cheap port , like all the ports from consoles are.

ok, I found out what triggers the menu issue

in the game settings, by default on the general tab, framerate compensation is set to active/smooth

deactivating it fixes the menu issue but somehow puts the game in slowmotion

letting it active but with the fast setting fixes the menu issue and keeps the normal speed
