mapsonx
HP pavilion Win xp connected to a Dell 2k pro. Was trying to setup the HP to access the Dell printer. Doubled clicked Dell icon in the HP & a password confirmation box came up. Went to Control Panel/Users in Dell & unchecked the box to use passwords. Another box came up with the user name "administrator" & the password blank. No password was ever previously established for this computer, so I entered a pasword & confirmed it. Rebooted & before it even gave me a chance to logon, I received this logon message "The system could not log you on. Make sure your user name and domain are correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed using the correct case. Make sure the caps lock is not accidently on." I can see the logon box behind the message with "Administrator" as the user, and the password area containing the same number of digits (*) as the password I established. When I click o.k. on the error message, the *'s in the password area disappear. I try to enter the passeord, but the logon message reappears. Is there any way out of this? Pls help. etron
if it's Win XP Home, then boot in safe mode or use Offline NT password & Registry editor to reset the password (http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/)
mapsonx
use Offline NT password & Registry editor Ran across it last night. What a lifesaver. A little tricky at first, but worked out fine. The logon message still comes up, but just click o.k., then o.k. on the logon box & it works. Thx - J - :D
