OK....Here's the deal. I need all you Neowinian's opinion:

I have a PIII 700/384mb. My friend is willing to put me in an Athlon Duron 950 with a killer MOBO capable of the latest XP chips and a Gig of memory.

I have 2 ata 100 drives (20.4 quantum and 40.3 maxtor), creative live!, 32mb tnt ultra, 16x writer, 250 int zip and a fast DVD player.

Should I trade him and put my drives in it?

I am not aware of the differences in Durons. I know they run a fast FSB and are not "watered" down like Celerons, but that is all I know about them.

Please give me input.

why is this in win xp forum?

is it upgrade for free?

durons are "watered" down athlons.

but i think you will see small performace increase cuase of more ram and faster mhz. your videocard is what's killing most of your fps, upgrade that and you'll see alot more fps.

Too right, they are not as watered down as Celery rubish. I have had an Duron 800 since the start of the year which can give most P3 1Ghz's a run for their money. I have mine overclocked upto 950Mhz without hitting 40c at peak.

Take the trade (if the new mobo will upgrade to an Athlon Thunderbird). The Duron, even with the faster mhz, will prob perform at near the same level as the P3 you have (the problem with the Durons is the slower front-side-bus). The cool thing about the trade is that you could easily upgrade that Duron to an Athlon Thunderbird or maybe even an Athlon XP without much worry or added cost. Athlons, as with most other processors, are getting cheaper by the day. If you up to an Athlon T-bird (266 fsb is the best), at some point, you'll have a processor that will out perform a P4 in most situations (except for apps created especially for the P4).
