+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 21, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted April 21, 2010 If there was one genre in video games today that I would label as overcrowding the market, it'd probably be the FPS. So you can imagine how excited I was to hear that Silent Hill, known for it's third person survival horror, might be joining the crowd. The rumor all started after Czech developer Vatra was recently indicated to be the latest developer to be working on the franchise, signing on after developers Climax and Double Helix left. Digital Development Management, a video game talent agency, listed Vatra's strengths as "FPS and Action" games. The profile on DDM also noted that Vatra was working on two games, one is the already announced action game Rush'N Attack Ex-Patriot, the other is an unknown "major franchise". Now by no means is this confirmation at all that the next iteration of Silent Hill is going to an FPS but seeing as how we know that Rush'N Attack is an action game and not an FPS and Vatra is probably working on Silent hill, and Silent Hill is a major franchise, it's easy to conclude that the next SH may be an FPS. If this rumor were to be true, then it would'nt make Silent Hill the first survival horror FPS nor would it even be the first game in the Silent Hill series to include first person gameplay. Silent Hill 4 featured first person sequences and Silent Hill: Arcade was an on rails shooter, but an entire survival horror Silent Hill game played in a first person view? I don't know. Again, this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt but I'd like to hear what you think, would Silent Hill be great as an FPS or should the franchise stick to it's roots?
