PS3 Firmware 3.3 now live

Recommended Posts

Adds some trophy enhancements and PS3 should now be ready for 3d, maybe upgrading to HDMI spec 1.4?

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/04/21/ps3-3-30-system-software-update/

Hi everyone, in our continued effort to provide the best, most comprehensive entertainment experience possible, we?ll be adding a few new features to PlayStation 3 (PS3) via the latest system software update, which is a mandatory update and will be available shortly. Most notably, you?ll see some new sorting options within Trophies that make it easier to claim bragging rights among your friends on PlayStation Network.

Trophy enhancements ?- Now you can more easily sort trophies in the [Trophy Collection] and [Comparing Trophy] sections. Sorting can be done with [Trophy Collection] in the [Game Category] and also when comparing trophies with your friends in the [Friend Category]

Trophy Folder (Title List) can be sorted by game name/ by title according to the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)

Add-on list (Group list) can be sorted by original/the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)

Trophy list can be sorted by original/trophy name/grade/date of obtaining the trophy (ascending/descending)

In addition, this update preps the PS3 system for some upcoming new features, including 3D stereoscopic gaming, which is coming soon to PS3, in time for the launch of Sony?s 3D BRAVIA TVs.

Let us know your thoughts and as always, we look forward to your feedback.

Ok guys, time for you all to be guinea pigs and test this out for me.

Downlaoded fine, quick, and didn't brick my system.

<snip>

Is there a reason you have to redownload the patches, or was it something that you were doing anyway?

Also, how do you pronounce Qriocity? Is it kri-os-ity?

*sigh* 3D sounds like it could be fun, but that would involve me buying a new TV and my current one isn't old enough yet to warrant a replacement...

I just bought the complete edition, you still need to update it to 1.9.

About 1GB worth of patches, or just over.

"Hidden features", most notable, an update to Flash

Last night's System Software Update, which takes the PlayStation 3 to version 3.30, didn't just add Trophy sorting and 3D support for games, it also updated the version of Flash used in the PS3's browser. Fans of sites like YouTube will now find that the PS3 is quite happy throwing around videos of Slow Loris' being tickled, or, you know, something great like our very own TSAtv.

In addition, the issue with some region-free Blu-ray disks (such as the BBC's Life) has been fixed, leading someto speculate that the Blu-ray profile within the PS3 has been updated in preparation for 3D support.

Of course, Flash, 3D and the Blu-ray fix aren't the only things on offer this update, with considerable work being done on the Trophy Lists. You can now sort your Trophies by title and date, which is nice, and you can also look into the add-on lists and sort there too, although most games don't use this feature yet. You can also sort by Trophy grade, too, so all your Plats can sit at the top.

Despite a reasonable update list, version 3.30 was mostly tweaks and additions to the software development kit, changes that we as consumers won't be seeing for a little while yet. Recent such SDK changes include a smaller footprint for the firmware, and although there's no games that yet use the extra RAM now available, the improvements were welcomed by developers.

We'll be on the lookout for any other new features today – if you find any, drop us a comment below.

Update: It appears there's a new BD Audio Output setting under Video Settings: [(Direct)] and [bitstream (Mix)] have been added for optical output. More info here, thanks TTP.

Update 2: There's now an option for PC remote play. We're investigating this.

I'm still on 3.15 and I'm not updating until OtherOS is brought back or there is a substantial update with new features. Just hope they don't update it at the service center (broken bluray). Put a big note on it not to, but could be a way to get my money back if they do.

Enjoy your wait

There won't be a hack to bring OtherOS back, and even if there is, you'll then be banned from the PSN for breaking the T&C's.

I wish the update process was silent or at least a one-click process - You can't even leave it because you are sure to come back to 50 different EULA agreements and other clickables.

How do we sort by trophy grade?

I didn't see that in the sort options.

Eh?

You press update, it gives you the EULA, then asks if you want it to turn itself off after the update or leave it on, and then you just leave it to download and install.

It happens after you downloaded, so I can't even leave it - A slow ass download, THEN it prompts me for something before it updates - It should just effin' update!

It's the dumbest update process I've ever seen.

I just tried it on my old PS3 which is still on 3.15, I checked for update via Internet, it said 3.30 update was found, then I get the user agreement which it asks if I accept, then it asks if I want to turn the system on or off after the update, I click start and it downloads and installs.

umm Curiousity?

PC Remote Play sounds really cool, but seems to be limited to a single Sony Vaio for now... oh well. i wish PSP's remote play took off - it's a really neat feature.

i used to own Lair and that was the game's only good thing... it was very cool to play Lair on the PSP.

I hope there is a hack and it's undetected by Sony so we can get back to running Linux.

So people can't complain about a bad experience they had without being called a hater? unsure.gif
