PS3 Firmware 3.3 now live

Recommended Posts

Wait... so can the PS3 play the imported version of BBC Life?... or was I just reading too much into it..lol... I am interested in this "Qriocity" because on my new Sony TV it has that in the XMB but says "coming soon"...

Yes it can as the discs are region free, much like some of the US releases are too :)

Yep, the update is easy. Haters just like to hate

I'm pretty sure every PS3 fw topic for the last 10 has been filled with the same crap, the sooner you start to use the nw ignore feature the cleaner and more enjoyable this section and the forums in general becomes.

So pornhub should work again, yay.

Had it stopped working? :p

I'm hoping it's flash 10 adobe hold exclusive rights to the most current version of flash on platforms of their choice but now that 10.1 is coming out the Ps3 should be able to get 10.

IIRC right now its flash 9 (before this update).

Nah, not using it. Some of the 'negative' posts do have valid points, plus they provide me with some much needed chuckles throughout the working day

Cool.. ill hold off until someone confirms its playable now... but I think the issue had to do with it being 50hz vs 60hz

That was the issue, one of the mods on GAF had complained in every FW topic since 2.xx about this and now it's been fixed with a BD profile update and his response was "not updating due to keeping Linux" :p

He's waited so long for this and now they've fixed it but he wants to stay on 3.15.

So people can't complain about a bad experience they had without being called a hater? unsure.gif

Sure you can, I was just messing around - hence the laughing face.

I do think he went a bit OTT though. The update process isn't anything like he said. You accept the download, accept the terms and that's it. If it's slow, that's a concern he should take forward with his ISP. It does seem many ISP's traffic shape the PSN ports, I had huge problems with Virgin and slow PSN.

Every updated for firmware on the PS3 has been pretty much the same for me. I haven't downloaded 3.30, so I don't know how that one is. I will assume the same as the rest.

Slow is a known issue for most people on PSN firmware updates though, at least in comparison to Xbox Live updates.

Why the constant comparison to the 360? They are completely different systems. As for the way it updates, it's the same for everybody... You accept the download, then the T&C's, you can then leave it to download and even request the unit switches off after it's done. Takes 5 minutes max on a good connection.

Like I said, slow updates to firmware and games were troubling me. I left Virgin and got a decent ISP and I have no problems anymore.

Downlaoded fine, quick, and didn't brick my system.

Same here.

Never had a problem updating my PS3. They download pretty fast and I only have a 4 Mbps connection.

Why the constant comparison to the 360?

Because I have both consoles, both my consoles get updates, one is always faster than the other, and requires less intervention. It's just natural for me to compare both my experiences.

I have a 20mb connection with Charter Cable. Downloads are rock solid and fast on both my 360 and PC. I think it's more related to the size of the PS3 patch and the PSN network/servers and they way they distribute the patches.

Not complaining though. A couple minutes isn't enough to lose sleep over.

Ignore the rest of my post and only pick up on that. Surely this is why we have a seperate forum for Microsoft products, and the 360? This thread is about the new firmware on the PS3, nothing at all to do with the Xbox. Why can't the Sony topics ever stay on topic?

My point is that your/Sethos' 'experience' is not actually factual. It doesn't do what he says. I accept it might be slow, but I've been over that now, get a better ISP that don't traffic shape.

EDIT - Ignore the top bit, you have edited.

Who knows. It happens all the time in both sections. No more 360 discussion in this thread from me.

That was Sethos' experience, not mine. I never said anything about it my experience other than being a bit slow in "comparison". My experience with PS3 firmware updates have been just fine and painless.

Fair enough, I did originally quote him, and not you. Seems crossed wires have ensued. We shall leave it there :D

No built-in MVK or NetFlics support then?

Netflix is on the Xbox, and exclusive from what I've heard/read. Don't expect that any time soon.

MKV support would be nice. Matter of time on that I think.

Updated in a couple of minutes, now back to installing all the patches for Burnout Complete edition pinch.gif

New EULA mentions Qriocity, looks like they're adding this

Interesting, if you already have a PSN account, you already have a Qriocity account.

Appears you can only have 1 ps3 and 1 psp linked to your Qriocity account.

(Edit) PSN DLC download & billing / account transaction data is also here??

Typical bias, can't possibly be Sony, nope.

My ISP doesn't limit, traffic shape or anything like that ... Well, apparently only on the PS3

Download speed on this update this morning was pretty rubbish tbh varying between 50-70kbs easy to tell as I bridge it through my pc so I can check traffic speeds. It's not a bridging issue as some game updates kick along in the 1000-1200's :)

In my experience with PSN the connection is always pretty solid and lag is minimal in games, but downloading of games/updates can be very hit and miss.

No, sorry. No bias at all. How can it possibly be Sony? If it was, it would affect far more people than it does, probably all. As I said, I too had slow speeds on the PSN with a previous ISP, I changed my ISP and I now get full speed downloads on the PS3 and Xbox.

I could call you out for being bias with your comments on the update procedure, but I won't

Listen Popisdead, there HAS been a massive outcry on PSN speeds, been for YEARS and they apparently fixed it some places but it's still persistent outside of your little magic box.

My ISP is not at fault here, doesn't even make sense how it can be flawless on every other device and platform yet it chokes completely on the PS3, sounds like a Sony problem to me

And as for the update, I can't remember the scenario 100% but I distinctly remember downloading the thing, leaving the room only to come back to an unfinished update where I had to press something

on my controller before it continued. So no, it's not something I'm pulling out of my ass but PS3 updates aren't the thing that is the clearest in my mind.

Easy now. No need to throw toys out.

If you wish to believe it's a Sony fault, go ahead. I'm simply stating that if it was, it would happen for everybody as we are all using the same Sony servers to download from. This simply isn't the case.

Anyway, I'm done here. I've put my point across in a sensible way, you chose to get nasty.

So you think Sony has one server we all download from?

Nope. That would be stupid, wouldn't it. The servers will be dotted across the globe. Let me give you an example, will be easier. If I'm dowloading from my house in the North East I got a slow speed with Virgin, yet my neighbour, with a different ISP got a good speed. We surely must be connected to the same server(s) getting the download.

Since then I've changed ISP in all 3 of my houses as I found this to be the case in them all.

Does that make more sense? I see why you would think I thought Sony had one Superdome ruling the world.
