PS3 Firmware 3.3 now live

Netflix is on the Xbox, and exclusive from what I've heard/read. Don't expect that any time soon.

As a pre-installed software, yes. But netflix will send you a disc in a day or so if you ask, and then you get the same streaming rentals.

Nope. That would be stupid, wouldn't it. The servers will be dotted across the globe. Let me give you an example, will be easier. If I'm dowloading from my house in the North East I got a slow speed with Virgin, yet my neighbour, with a different ISP got a good speed. We surely must be connected to the same server(s) getting the download.

Since then I've changed ISP in all 3 of my houses as I found this to be the case in them all.

Does that make more sense? I see why you would think I thought Sony had one Superdome ruling the world.

No offence but I work with massive Networks every day, so don't bother explaining this - I was having a poke at you and your statement.

And you said; "it would happen for everybody as we are all using the same Sony servers to download from." which doesn't even make sense, we all use the Sony servers; yes but we use different servers to download from

thus you can in no way, shape or form apply anything from one place to another. The server feeding the Scandinavians is known to be very, very slow and I've heard nothing but complaints about download speeds around here and while

the complaints have thinned out as Sony has apparently worked on 'em, there is still issues!. So this BS about having god and every man change ISP because a company is using a crappy provider to serve their files, it's a joke.

I can download at blistering speeds from everywhere I go, Marketplace is blazing fast and I've never had a single speed related issue with any service that couldn't be explained by actual server problems or mass activity yet PSN is the only

service that constantly manages to be slow and even way outside of local peak hours and download non-popular files and I'm not alone with this problem - Then it is thick bias not to step back and say "Oh hey, it may be Sony having some problem in

your part of the world" and instead just blame the user or the ISP

We've been over this farce so many times, funnily enough also with popisdead ( Gee! ).

Not strickly true and could all depend on the routing of the ISP's traffic as to which server it might hit.

does anybody know about an update over the next year or so for PlayTV HD? does it have the capabilities for FreeViewHD, or would they have to release a new one?

Normal Freeview TV on my 37" is crap on some channels, would love FreeViewHD via PlayTV.

Download speed on this update this morning was pretty rubbish tbh varying between 50-70kbs easy to tell as I bridge it through my pc so I can check traffic speeds. It's not a bridging issue as some game updates kick along in the 1000-1200's smile.gif

In my experience with PSN the connection is always pretty solid and lag is minimal in games, but downloading of games/updates can be very hit and miss.

Get a new ISP or have them fix your traffic. tongue.gif

The current PlayTV box is unable to decode the UK Freeview HD as it is using DVB-T2 which is a hardware issue, not software. Hopefully Sony will release a new box for it though.

I'll get on to them straight away! (Y)

someone mentioned mkv support. why the hell cant the PS3 support that?

i wish they could bring that feature via fw update.it would be nice ti give us something new and important after removing linux.Personally if mkv was in next fw i wouldnt hesitate a moment to update my fat ps3.

If someone knows:Is it technical possible for Sony (if they wanted of course) to bring support for various file types such as *mkv via firmware updates?

why do so many users want mkv support? honest question. the only reason i would know of is to play hd movies illegally downloaded off the net. if there is a legit reason, i'd really like to know. no sarcasm, genuine question.

Sony has just released a new firmware update for 3D Games. They will be releasing another one later this summer for 3D Blu-Ray. The PS3 is already defying the need for HDMI 1.4 so there is a good chance the PS3 could take any TV that has at least a 120 Hz refresh rate and make it show 3D content.

From my own personal experience mkv has become the packaging of choice, at least for large video files shared on the internet. I've been using ps3 media server for quite some time and it's never been a problem for me to play them through the ps3.

i use that too but there are a lot of issues (or possible issues) that can cause that way not to really work properly. network connection, computer speed etc etc... native support would be awesome.

No slower than any other wireless G adapter

That hasn't been my experience. There is quite a noticable difference transferring files to the PS3 compared to other G devices in the same room.

Regarding mkv, who rips to that instead of mp4 and why?

And mine is just the opposite, so it probably comes down to router.

My god...wireless? I am all gigabit hardwire networked with my PS3.

G? pffftt

Yup, hardwired for me too. It's the only way to stream full HD movies (plus a decent PC to stream from)

Heck yeah. Using the wireless in a PS3 is like slapping a 4 cylinder in a Ferrari. I want to use all the V8 power damn it! It's they way god intended!
