daliam
This has really bugged me so much, i felt i needed the expert guidance of fellow neowinians in an attempt to cure my problem!! I am trying to get a firewall installed on a LAN and it aint very successful! Basically, there are 7 computers on the network. 3 of those have internet access, the others do not (the connections are not shared). I recently installed ZoneAlarm, and (after adding network ip's as trusted zones) i was able to browse the network perfectly normally. However, the customer database software would not operate over the network (all the data is stored in a MYSQL database on a server). This was after i allowed the program access to the network through ZoneAlarm. Failing that, I decided to download a trial of Norton Personal Firewall. Installed it onto one of the computers, but exactly the same problem is occuring. Any suggestions guys?? Liam
cjbeckwith
Can you look in the firewall logs and see if it is denying traffic over a particular port? Possible that the software is trying to communicate over a port that is being blocked by the firewall.
daliam
Not that I know of. It monitors all ports but you can allow software access when it requests it. When the software requested access to the network ZA popped up informing me and i permenantly allowed it. Any other ideas?
mAcOdIn Veteran Posted July 3, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 3, 2003 well for ZA did you allow it to run as a "server"? As for Norton's firewall, you may want to turn off or read through the Intrusion Detection' Signature's as they may be interpreting your attempts to use SQL as an attack of some sorts. daliam
In ZA the prog was given server rights, yes. i have since uninstalled ZA but i'm having major problems. basically, the TrueVector Internet Monitor is affecting the system still. When i disable it, the customer software does not work at all, when i enable it, some aspects work, but i cant do a lookup of a postcode using it and it's extremely slow to work with. help?? something aint working right!! i cant do a system restore for some reason either, but i dont want true vector to be controlling my network! wots goin on?? ideas?? cheers, liam
mAcOdIn Veteran Posted July 3, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 3, 2003 run msconfig from the run prompt and remove anything that has to do with Zonealarm. reboot. Then go into the directory where you installed ZA and delete everything.
