itzwolf
I agree with that graph as well. Video games as stated above are the excuse to put blame on something else other than what the real problem is.
Draken
hehe nice reading; I'm not a violent person and I've been a gamer all my life, it all depends on you education and family values, and if you're born to be bad, you'll be bad, that's all ;)
Carbon Fiber
hehe nice reading; I'm not a violent person and I've been a gamer all my life, it all depends on you education and family values, and if you're born to be bad, you'll be bad, that's all ;) Same for me. I'm playing first person shooter games for several years now (and other violent games) but in real life I'm not violent at all. I know what the difference is between reality and game. Sure they use us so they can explain why there is so much violence in our society.. maybe for some people violent games make them violent, but for most of us, this is not like that. MikeChipshop Member Posted April 23, 2010 Member Share Posted April 23, 2010 Games, Music, Films etc etc if it's fun then it will, at some point, get the blame for the bad things that happen in the world. I guarantee the head caveman used some cave paintings as an excuse once upon a time. :p
McCordRm
I guarantee the head caveman used some cave paintings as an excuse once upon a time. :p Sorry, but I'm going to have to call B.S. on that one. I mean, there's absolutely no way to verify that, whereas this game theory is like actual science and stuff. Also, I don't know about Marylin Manson, but I think I heard some kids from M.I.T. built an equation that proved Ozzy Ozbourne is the devil. Black Flash
The world is a safer place, and video games haven't had a negative or positive impact in terms of crime rate. The United States was a far more dangerous place during the 20's and 30's then it is now. Same trend applies in Canada even though there has been mass influx of violent video games and non-white immigrants over the years, crime isn't getting any worse, the demographics of it are just changing with the population. What lesson can we take from this? Don't listen to fear-mongers. Anyways I came here to Gamer Hangout to stay away from this kind of stuff, not to read up on Real World Gamer Issues
Tikimotel
Real problem is media attention. With the lack of real news, the media attention is focused on, otherwise ignored news items and blown out off proportions. More and more newspapers/media tend to contain "copy" and "paste" news these days they DO NOT verify items, rumors get to be published as facts without checking. Austen Boshtin
I thought Marilyn Manson caused violence? I thought it was Eminem that caused violence in youth? Also what does Alan Titchmarsh know about video games vs violence? He's a gardener

NikkiRox
Nice read. The video infuriates me. Experts just don't understand at all. I've been playing violent video games since I was 6-7. I have never done any crimes or been in any fights. I've grown up with manners and have always been responsible. Games (mostly violent) are my hobby, they keep me happy and keep me sane from the real world. There is more fear and violence shown on the daily news on TV. qdave
From that graph, Doom1 caused most biggest spike in 10 years. :D I guess games after that have been going downhill.

Yusuf M. Veteran Posted April 27, 2010 Veteran Share Posted April 27, 2010 I too have been playing video games at an early age and I'm not violent at all. If anything, I'm a moderate pacifist. I'll avoid unnecessary confrontation; however, I will defend myself if it comes to that. Anyone that is "corrupted" by games needs to get checked by a mental health professional. The line between reality and fantasy needs to be thick, not fine.
