Sethos
Company of Heroes + Expansions & Men of War - Excellent games in my opinion, all depends what you like though.
Colin-uk Veteran Posted April 25, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted April 25, 2010 well i just finished playing spore and some of the stages in that game are RTS-like, so something similar to that would be fun i guess :p i'll check out those two though, thanks :)
killmaster84
Dawn of War, Warcraft III and Age of Empires.
-Harbinger
Check out Dawn of War 2 and its expansion Rise of Chaos. It is a bit different than traditional RTS games, but if you give it a chance, you will really like it. :)
Riser
If you like sci-fi then sins of a solar empire is awesome, strange name but great game. Plus loads of great mods being made for it.
Ryster
Supreme Commander and Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance (standalone expansion to SC) are great games. Just make sure you've got a decent PC though as the maps are HUGE and you can zoom all the way in and out. Supreme Commander 2 on the other hand is not so good. +Frank B. Subscriber² Posted April 25, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted April 25, 2010 The Total War series. You can get the older titles like Medieval: Total War or Rome: Total War cheaply - I saw the Rome: Total War Gold pack on sale for 10 ? the other day. BGM
The Total War series. Sethos
The older Total War games haven't really withstood the test of time, I bought Rome: Total War a few months ago which was by far one of my favourite games back then - It's almost unplayable now with the extremely crappy camera controls on the battlefield, so clumsy. I'd just skip all those and get either Empire: Total War or Napoleon: Total War.
Spookie
Check out Dawn of War 2 and its expansion Rise of Chaos. It is a bit different than traditional RTS games, but if you give it a chance, you will really like it. :) And if you like that then Company of Heroes. bjoswald
Warcraft 3, Starcraft, Command & Conquer, and Commandos come to mind. They're "golden oldies" to me.
Colin-uk Veteran Posted April 25, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted April 25, 2010 hmmm some good looking suggestions there, thanks :) my brother has some of the AoE games so i might steal them and try those out :p
metal_dragen Veteran Posted April 25, 2010 Veteran Share Posted April 25, 2010 Dawn of War, Warcraft III and Age of Empires. This. It's an all-time top 3 for me as far as RTS goes.
deactivated01032015
Certainly Company of Heroes + expansions. I'd also suggest World in Conflict - campaign is short but multiplay is quite fun on certain servers.
Dwarden
You can always try opensource RTS Spring engine : http://springrts.com/ it's root come from 3D variant of Total Annihilation but it grown way over just being that ... it's not TA focused anymore but there are lot of TA related mods then there is this nice Men of War game (was cheap on sale on Direct2Drive and GamersGate)
Billus
Sins of a Solar Empire, Battle For Middle Earth 1 and/or 2, Total War
Raraku
The best RTS series from the last 5 years is Company of Heroes + expansions. I would go for this long before Dawn of War II, which is more of an RTS hybrid. The Total War "Empire: Total War" series is also very good. LingeringSoul
Gotta throw in another vote for Company of Heroes + Expansions (although I've only played Opposing Fronts and not Tales of Valor). One of my favourite RTS games ever. I'm usually afraid to venture online in RTS games (for fear of getting humiliated by far superior players), but I actually had a lot of fun playing this one online. Dawn of War II didn't really grip me the way that CoH did (I didn't even bother to get the expansion), but I still know a solid game when I play one, so check that out as well. Just stay away from C&C4. Just pretend it doesn't exist :).
rajputwarrior
Company of Heroes + Expansions & Men of War - Excellent games in my opinion, all depends what you like though. +1 possibly the greatest suggestion you've made on these forums ;) command and conquer 3 is really good. can't speak about the fourth though, never played it and i heard it sucks BAD. Oposing fronts was my favorite part, while tales of valour wasnt as good.

Lazure
Starcraft1 doesn't work well in Windows 7. However, later this year, Starcraft II will likely be coming out. It's already in beta testing with lots of happy players.
