tiagosilva29
An anonymous reader writes:ArenaNet studio head Mike O'Brien has posted his vision for a new type of MMORPG, which they used in developing Guild Wars 2. Quoting: 'MMOs are social games. So why do they sometimes seem to work so hard to punish you for playing with other players? If I'm out hunting and another player walks by, shouldn't I welcome his help, rather than worrying that he's going to steal my kills or consume all the mobs I wanted to kill? ... [in Guild Wars 2], when someone kills a monster, not just that player's party but everyone who was seriously involved in the fight gets 100% of the XP and loot for the kill. When an event is happening in the world -- when the bandits are terrorizing a village -- everyone in the area has the same motivation, and when the event ends, everyone gets rewarded.' Vice
This is how MMORPG's should be. I'll be getting Guild Wars 2 for sure.
Xilo
As long as there are separate loot tables for each party involved, this would be really cool. If they aren't, well, this just opens a huge opportunity for griefing and exploitation.

Blackhearted
Guild wars 2 needs to come out soon! That'd be nice. But at the rate they've been going, i doubt it'll be even remotely soon. Remember, they initially(when they announced gw2 in spring 07) said we'd have a beta like in 2008 or something. And here we are, 3 years after announcement of gw2, with no sign of an actual real game yet. (yes, i know about the 'trailers' posted last year. But Fly-throughs are alot different than an actual game.)

And here we are, 3 years after announcement of gw2, with no sign of an actual real game yet. i don't remember this... as far as i remember they told us that they won't make the same mistake as guild wars. because if you remember we got a beta WAY before the game released. and with gw2 they told us that won't happen. i rather have them take their time and release something we deserve after waiting so long. it is completely unreasonable to have expected a beta in 2008
trag3dy
Yeah, I remember as soon as all the stuff about how Eye of the North was going to be the last expansion and that was okay because we'd have a GW2 beta within a year. I waited patiently, and waited..and waited. I thought I had given up caring about GW2, but after trying several other mmos I'm really looking forward to it now. To this date I've probably spent more time playing Guild Wars than any other game and I haven't even had it installed for 2 years.
Reacon
The loot/motivation was the exact reason why I loved Anarchy Online so much back in the day. Oh man I hope their plans for the AoC engine really bring life back into it.
Tharp Daddy
Guild wars 2 sounds amazing, and for some reason i get a feeling that them taking so long on it is for the purpose of quality, rather then a more negative reason - i hope this game is a blockbuster. Minifig
I see potential problems with this. If a level one somehow hits a level eighty-five, and scores ONE point of damage... they'll get the FULL amount of XP and drops they can't use. Therefore, he'll ding unbelievable amounts. The power leveling implications are ridiculous. It destroys the whole system.

Plus i doubt a level 1 will have a significant enough impact on a fight to where he gets XP and loot.
