lawtai
Hmm, didn't know where to exactly put this, but I was wondering if any of you guys are also getting spam mail about pharamcy drugs/viagra/pills, and know how I can stop getting those e-mails. Those are basically the only spam e-mails that I'm getting right now. The e-mails say remove at the bottom, but they just lead to a dead page, and they probably don't really remove me. Any ideas other than filtering?
Cara Veteran Posted July 3, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 3, 2003 Filtering, most of those sites get shut down as fast as they send therefore removal isn't an option, unless you fill out the form like you're interested and then royally go after them when they call. ;)

altezza Veteran Posted July 3, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 3, 2003 You are not the only one there, I also received spams about drugs. At least one junk email every day. I can't stop it though but I would like to know ways to stop that waste. I have completely stopped receiving spams on my Hotmail but my ISP email keep getting it everyday. They getting smarter now, able to track down users emails.
Roger H. Veteran Posted July 3, 2003 Veteran Share Posted July 3, 2003 NEVER CLICK ANY LINKS IN ANY SPAM EMAIL OR OPEN THEM when you click or open them the reveal to a server that your email is valid. And also if you block them then they'll just hcange their sending address (they got millions) and send again. Doing this also reveals tat your addy is a still used one... so filtering is the only good option

+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted July 3, 2003 Subscriber² Share Posted July 3, 2003 I get 80 spam items a day, and it' REALLY getting me down. Must sort my outlook filter out soon. Is there a way of filtering before they reach your server? I used to check my mails on my phone, but now that no longer a valid option.

The only way to filter spam before it gets to you is if the server before you filters it out. I.E. if your a home user then your ISP would have to. But you can take measures. What I use right now is SAproxy which is free from here: http://saproxy.bloomba.com/ It basically sits between your email program and the internet, and filters out junk that matches certain criteria. It is not as effective as say spampal in it's defualt install but I still prefer it over spampal because I have never gotten a false Positive(it classifying a wanted email as spam). Using this it cuts the spam that reaches my Inbox by about half. Then I use additional filters in my email program to get what slipped by. But you can never block 100%

rossonthenet
I got mailwasher on the last download (2.0.28 beta) before the official launch, that removed Hotmail and stuff from the free version. Luckily i still have access to all the Pro features, on beta software (works a treat though, never crashed!). And yes, Mailwasher is the best :)
