+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 29, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted April 29, 2010 A teen who bought down a worldwide gaming network has been sentenced to a year's probation and to perform 250 hours of community service. The kid will also have to write a cheque to Sony for $5,000 in damages. The teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons , faced four counts for planting a computer virus that caused Sony's gaming Web site to repeatedly crash between November 16-26, 2008. A report into the kid said he otherwise led a normal life, was a good student and participated in school activities. However the whole thing was based on an obsession that the kid had with winning. Rather than do it in the traditional US way of winning on the sports field or fighting in countries that do not have the same weapons ability, the teen burned the midnight oil playing computer games. Coppers claimed that the teen crippled Sony's online PlayStation site in retaliation for being kicked off the site for cheating while playing a war game called SOCOM US Navy Seals. He used hacker tools to contact a botnet and these were directed clog three games on the PlayStation site, causing it to crash and go off-line. Sony wanted $33,200 in restitution, but the judge ruled that amount would be too excessive for the teen. Source: http://www.techeye.n...years-probation Being a script kiddie, it's never cool. Sikh
Script kiddie? lol, dude didnt use multiple scripts and ripped off other peoples work. A script kiddie is a person that takes a widely available script, compiles it and abuses it. He actually came up with his own. While I dont condone him hacking in ANY game, especially socom, that game was AWESOME and hackers need to get the **** away. His skill is good that he took down sonys website/servers. Good job kid (Y). Too bad you dont realize you have to be WAY underground to never get caught. I found this to be funny. Who doesn't play games to get rid of stress? Not only that, i love how they say midnight oil. The first day of my 13yr old life when I gamed pasted 11 o clock and saw all the other people i could play with(UK, AUS, Europe, Asia, etc) it was an awesome experience. Ever since then I prefer Overnight gaming then during the day.

Lol you must have PC confused with console xD. 10 yr olds A) dont have mics and B) rarely stay up that late. I understand what your saying, nad ive faced a view, some with MICs(stealing there dads) but at the same time, its funny because I tend to ignore text chat if I have my headset on, so i dont notice them spamming noob in chat. Oh, and when they voice and you voice back something really strong like "keep tlaking kid and lets see what happens to your computer *paste fake script here*" they either shut up and/or say sorry, or alt f4 there asses quickly lol. I don't PC game much, mostly BF42 if anything. But early on when I was PC gaming it was kind of funny when you'd type "this cool cheat, hit alt+f4" *User has disconnected*. XBL is terrible during the day, especially Weekends for young kids bad mouthing anyone about anything. I kind of miss PC gaming :/
Sikh
Sounds like console gaming. Im glad microsoft encouraged communication and gave everyone a mic, but then Parents have to be parents, and most are idiots. So yeah. presence06 1 Share

Tom
This is absolutely pathetic. I can't believe people in this topic are crediting him for doing it! Stupid kid needs to learn that hacking a large organization is more serious than getting playground credit. Should of got jail time tbh, community service won't do ANYTHING. Chasethebase Reporter Posted May 3, 2010 Reporter Share Posted May 3, 2010 Stop arresting people like this and arrest the real criminals. Yes, he deserved it, but sentences aren't harsh enough anyway, someone who got arrested for assault typically gets less than this. It's shameful. :hmmm:
