+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 29, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted April 29, 2010 Speaking to gamesindustry.biz, Jarrard compared the situation to Bungie's acquisition by Microsoft in 2000. "That was perceived to be the end of the world [too]," he said."It's ultimately going to result in something great for our fans." Jarrard revealed that the company has "some pretty crazy, ambitious, grandiose plans for what we want to do with our next big game universe"; a universe and intellectual property (IP) that, unlike Halo, will be owned by Bungie under the terms of the Activision deal. "Looking back at a decade of working on Halo that wasn't our IP we learned a lot from that and I think it was just a position that no one ever wants to be in again," he said. He acknowledged, however, that although Bungie will have full creative control over their new IP, Activision has a clear role to play. "Even already in terms of things like production, together we've been able to sit down [with Activision] and work out schedules for milestones and key dates that we both believe in" he said, "It's a very great mutual partnership." This may not go down too well with Bungie's fanbase, who have already flocked to the company's forums to post threads along the lines of "Activision is going to destroy Bungie," "bungie = losers" and the simplistic "NOOOOOOO!!!!" All threads of that nature are currently being locked by moderators. The recent Infinity Ward fiasco has clearly made many Bungie fans nervous about what Activision may have planned. Jarrard appears less concerned, mainly because "this discussion [with Activision] really started about nine months ago." Of course, this neatly sidesteps the question of whether Bungie employees now have more worries in light of recent events. In response to Bungie's new deal, Microsoft has stated that "Our partnership with Bungie as a first-party developer for Xbox 360 remains unchanged, and right now we're deeply engaged with them on the development of Halo Reach, which is poised to be the biggest game of 2010." Source: http://www.incgamers...t-the-internet- In a way he's right, the average consumer who buys good games probably doesn't know about/couldn't care less who publishes what. If the titles they put out are still quality ones, it'll just be a case of internet rage following them around.
spenser.d
Huh, kinda exactly what I stated in the other thread. Everyone's overreacting and Bungie does, in fact, know what they are doing. Good to hear from them so soon on this matter  -Spenser
Hedon
Since they are still a first party developer for MS, I can imagine what they could still bring MS in the future as well.
Singh400
Well if they are sure, I am sure they know alot more about the games industry about any of us.
Nagisan
When will people start stripping formatting out of the post so users on the Darkside theme do not have to highlight the entire post to read it? Or maybe thats something Neowin should do on the darkside theme itself (if text is dark, change it to light)?

Sikh
Beat me to it, i was gonna post about Formatting, NOT AB's fault either. As far as Bungie goes, Yes they know what they are doing, but for gods sake, its ACTIVISION. They screwed there biggest money maker out, i can see them screwing over Bungie Some how. Like I said in the other thread, and it was stated in here Speaking to gamesindustry.biz, Jarrard compared the situation to Bungie's acquisition by Microsoft in 2000. "That was perceived to be the end of the world [too]," he said. "It's ultimately going to result in something great for our fans." Everyone thought microsoft was gonna be the worse, as did I, but they werent, but we for SURE know Activision is because of what they just did. And if Bungies been talking to them for Sometime now(9 months i believe, stated in other topic) then thats just ****ed up, because they were angry at the 2 IW CEO's who started talking to EA 2-3 months prior I think it was. Either way, Activision ****ed up bad, I dont see me putting any money into that filthy company.

As I said in a topic before I can't help it, when you use the Rich Text Editor it copies over formatting from other websites. I use it as it's very handly for copying news, I don't need to manually insert links and other things.

We've seen before that the top brass at Activision don't give a toss about the quality of the games, just as long as there's something pretty they can run the hype machine off of. Corris Veteran Posted April 30, 2010 Veteran Share Posted April 30, 2010 Since they are still a first party developer for MS, I can imagine what they could still bring MS in the future as well. Doesn't this mean there not any more? There bringing out Reach, and have already announced not to be making any more Halo games after that, and that was the IP of theirs that Microsoft owned. So surely once that is done they don't have to any more, and no doubt Activision will want to get their hands in on anything from them in the future. They haven't been a 1st party developer since they went independent, as obviously this multiplatform title has been being worked on since then. 1st party studio means all your titles exclusively go through the one publisher (which is usually Nintendo/Sony/MS) and remain console exclusive. So surely once that is done they don't have to any more, and no doubt Activision will want to get their hands in on anything from them in the future. If they are not, why did they say this: In response to Bungie's new deal, Microsoft has stated that "Our partnership with Bungie as a first-party developer for Xbox 360 remains unchanged, and right now we're deeply engaged with them on the development of Halo Reach, which is poised to be the biggest game of 2010." as for the formatting here: When will people start stripping formatting out of the post so users on the Darkside theme do not have to highlight the entire post to read it? Or maybe thats something Neowin should do on the darkside theme itself (if text is dark, change it to light)? As soon as they stop being lazy and post it in Notepad first the paste as a new post. That is how I do it to avoid the formatting/HTML issues for dark theme. Works slick.

Because I assume they are referring to Halo Reach as they are mentioning it there and it is their first party title form Bungie. Hedon
Because I assume Right. And I assume different. They might still be creating some exclusive games/content for Microsoft Game Studios from what I understand. Not to mention, they said their first party developer connection is unchanged. I can't dismiss what Microsoft said.

Bingo, doesn't mean they can't create exclusive future content as a 3rd party studio, but they are not a 1st party studio any more.
coresx
They should be worried. The Infinity Ward stuff was only recently, Bungie have been doing this deal over the past 9 months. Hope they didn't miss anything before signing, Activision will screw them.

If a similar situation happened with Bungie, they would cut ties and sue the **** out of Activision, game over. They wouldn't be publisher to one of the top developers. And Bungie would still have their company and their IP and they'd be off the EA or something. Do you think Activision enjoy the ****storm with IW? Because they'll probably loose the case.
