On a side note:

Has anyone else had issues with bookmarks using b8? For ex:

#1. losing any / all existing bookmarks in your profile after your update to b8.

and

#2. bookmarks imported from backed-up json or html file(s) show up when you click on bookmark navigation button in browser window, but don't appear when using Bookmark Manager / "Show All Bookmark" menu.

<Now you see them...>

<Now you don't...>

and

#3. any new bookmarked pages using b8 disappear when closing ff & starting new session (with saved tabs or otherwise).

I was close to that a few days ago. There were about 20-30 tabs, about 8 of them were YouTube pages, and I had them all sorted in Panorama in 3-5 different groups.

EDIT:

No bookmark issues here.

Just curious, why did you have 8 YouTube pages open?

Again, memory issues will be fixed before Final which should lower memory usage by about 40%. Currently it is about the same as Chrome and Slightly more then Opera 11.

P.S - No issues here upgrading from Beta 7 to Beta 8 on five computers. Which version are you upgrading from?

I was watching a multi-part documentary. The uploader only had links to all the other parts in the first video, and Youtube's automatic related video thing doesn't always work right, so before I started watching, I found the rest of the videos and grouped them together. The only thing I didn't do was preload them.

most people have firefox 3.6 installed, why arent any instructions/recomendations on installing FF4?

i mean can they be installed side by side?, should i remove 3.6 first? if installed side by side and i dont like v4, can i uninstall it without mesing 3.6? (found the hard way, NO.)

if installed side by side, when ff4 reaches final, what to uninstall, or there's no need to...

If you're interested enough to try FF4 beta, then you're asking the wrong question. What you should do is read a little bit more. I know it's kinda hard, but me give you a head start. >>> http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/4.0b8/releasenotes/

Strange , open new window , close it , u get save tabs dialog (twice sometimes) , even for new window dialogs like when sharing something on fb , twitter etc

a bug is filled?

I was going to say that I saw it mentioned on Mozillazine forums, but I see that it was you that mentioned it, lol. Anyway, it works for me and I haven't come across a bug for that yet.

Hi guys. I decided to try this out due to some issues I've been having with Firefox 3. This browser is so much faster but the UI is different so I'm not sure how to handle some addins. For example...

Download status bar - there is no bottom bar now so don't know where to check for my downloads?

Scrapbook - I see no menu entry for this so not sure how to access it.

For some reason this beta freezes for me a few seconds after opening and stays that way for about 5 sec or less. Each and everytime.

I thought it could be xmarks, and disabled it, but firefox still freezes. anyone else have this problem? or knwo how to fix it?

thanks

Same, althought im using Speed Dial, i thought it may have been that..

You can try disabling Hardware Acceleration in the Options and restart Firefox. Not sure if it will fix your problem since it only froze on a cold start for me but maybe it's worth a try.

There already is a bug that talks about Firefox freezing on cold start with Direct2D enabled so i hope it will be fixed soon.

I believe it's you.

i don't think it's just him.

certain sites, namely 'www.themortalkombat.com' (the forums there etc) , seem to eat more and more ram the more you refresh the pages and it just keeps going higher and never seems to free any ram back up. that's one site i noticed there definitely seems to be a ram issue with.

other than that site... i seem to be fine for the most part although ram does seem to climb up if you got your browser open for a while as i am around 323MB as i type this with 10 tabs open. (i am sure my browser been running for roughly a 24hours off the top of my head with quite a few random site loads)

p.s.it even does it (i.e. the ram issues) with the stable Firefox v3.6.

Beta 8 so far seems stable enough to use on a daily basis. Really can't wait for the final... I think once that comes out Firefox will become my favorite browser once again.

Yeah i just used Firefox 4 BETA 8 (first time using Firefox 4 as i always used Firefox 3.6) and it's good enough to use as primary browser.

i just think in overall browser smoothness that Firefox beats the competition.

    • You could make the argument that K should not be included, but FC, the fried chicken, is not the framework, it's the product. It's the Paint in Paint.NET. A closer analogy is if KFC included the name of the deep fryer they used. HennyPennyFC.

    • Apple is expanding Private Cloud Compute beyond its own data centers by Pradeep Viswanathan At WWDC 2026, as part of the improved Apple Intelligence capabilities, Apple today announced that it is expanding Private Cloud Compute (PCC), its privacy-focused cloud infrastructure for Apple Intelligence, beyond its own data centers for the first time. Private Cloud Compute was designed to handle Apple Intelligence requests that are too complex to run fully on-device. The PCC system does not store user data and does not allow Apple or anyone else to access user requests. Last year, Apple also expanded its Security Bounty program with rewards of up to $1 million for researchers who could find serious vulnerabilities in PCC. Until now, Apple's PCC data centers were using Apple's own silicon. As part of the expansion, Apple is working with Google and NVIDIA to run new Apple Intelligence workloads on Google Cloud systems powered by NVIDIA GPUs. Apple will be using this new infrastructure to execute more demanding AI tasks while maintaining the same privacy and security guarantees of PCC. The new implementation uses NVIDIA Confidential Computing with NVIDIA GPUs, Intel CPUs with TDX, and Google’s Titan chip. Apple says it has worked with Google to build additional protections beyond a traditional confidential computing deployment. Despite the expansion to third-party data centers, Apple claims that its core PCC requirements remain unchanged, including stateless computation, no privileged runtime access, non-targetability, and verifiable transparency. The company highlighted that it will continue to control the PCC software stack, and Apple devices will only trust PCC software that has been cryptographically approved by Apple. To take security to the next level, Apple mentioned that it is maintaining an append-only ledger of Google Cloud hardware that is part of the PCC fleet. The company claims this will help reduce the risk of supply chain attacks. In addition to AI infrastructure, Apple also worked with Google to use technologies behind the Gemini family of models to build the next generation of Apple Foundation Models to power Apple Intelligence features across on-device and cloud workloads. As expected, for more demanding AI tasks like agentic tool use and complex reasoning, Apple will rely on the expanded PCC infrastructure running on Google Cloud. The expansion of PCC on Google Cloud will gradually ramp toward the full set of protections during the summer preview period. As before, Apple will also publish binaries for public inspection, provide research tooling, and give researchers access to live PCC nodes in research mode through the Apple Security Bounty Program.
    • my problem with outlook (new) is that it connects only to outlook.com. all connections to external providers goes through there. Got your mail server and want to use imap directly? no way... it adds a connector on outlook.com. last bug; if your email on an external provider if the same as principal email of your microsoft account, it doesn't work...
