New Bungie IP to be an action RPG, suggests job listing

It looks like the ?next big action game universe? Bungie is currently building with Activision might just be an action RPG. The studio is looking for a writing lead for the storyline of the new title, according to a job listing on its website, with the developer especially keen on writers who provide a ?branching or non-linear narrative experience?. On that nugget of info alone, Gamespot suggests it could be an action RPG in a similar form like Mass Effect 2 or Deus Ex.

The developer announced last week it had signed a ten-year deal with Activision for full publishing and distribution rights to the new IP: Bungie will maintain full control on the series. Get everything from the deal?s announcement from last week here. In the meantime, the studio?s currently focusing on Halo: Reach, which launched its multiplayer beta earlier tonight.

If it was something like Mass Effect 2, that would so rock my socks.

As long as it's more action than RPG I'll be interested.

Otherwise, zzz

What are your thoughts of Mass Effect and it's action vs. rpg elements?

Very mixed tbh!

Originally when I first played ME1 I didn't like it, but I wasn't paying attention to the storyline at all.

However I started playing it again on the lead up to ME2 and really enjoyed it. I'm not a fan of traversing games with broken navigation or horrible loading times, something ME1 is guilty of. Using sign posts to find your way through levels was just tedious. Same deal with The Darkness and the "real world" maps and underground maps, so it's not just RPGs that get it wrong.

The more action involved with RPG's the better, otherwise I can't stand the genre. I really despise games you spend more time reading text or navigating menus than actually playing & progressing.

We are on the same page there. While I really like ME, I didn't like it at first. I forced myself to enjoy it at first, not finishing it. Then I finally tried it again prior to ME2, and I was able to enjoy it as I finally took my time and understood all the level ups, the UI, etc.

I have struggled with Fallout 3, another RPG/Action. To this date, I am still struggling with it. I really want to like it, and I can see the value in the game.

Ha ditto on Fallout 3 as well. I've tried 3 times to get into that game & I just can't.

It's so bloody boring & bland. It doesn't help that it starts out exactly like Oblivion too. It's a constant case of deja vu from 4 years ago, I'm sick of the game before I even leave the vault.

I'm the same. Open-world games like fallout or farcry 2 bore me to no end. ME1/2 was as open as I really care for tbh. I know lots of RPG die-hards who don't like the watered down nature of ME2 or Dragon Age, but hell, I don't care for being able to customize every little tidbit of a character or being able to make/synth hundreds of items/weapons. I never bother to do that stuff, even in JRPGs etc. I just want a good story and good gameplay.

I bet Bungie is crying from joy at being able to finally focus on something other than halo full time. It seems they also enjoyed their open world(ish) stint from ODST.

Better be on PC ;)

I still hold a grudge for Bungie not releasing Halo 3, OSDT or Reach on PC.

It probably will be, it I have a feeling that it will be stripped down so that the new generation of gamers will be "able" to play the game.
