+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted May 4, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted May 4, 2010 Retailers around the country seem to have revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops will retail for £54.99 when released in the UK later this year. The company caused plenty of controversy by upping the price of Modern Warfare 2 to £54.99, however it didn't seem to effect sales of the title and therefore Activision are more than happy to charge the same again. CVG did query the price but were told, "With regards to Black Ops, we haven't confirmed any pricing details at this stage so have nothing to comment on." The fact remains though the retails such as Play.com. Amazon and GAME are all listing the title with a RRP of £54.99, although thankfully most of them are only charging £44.99 at the moment. Source: http://www.thesixtha...etail-at-54-99/ Shock horror!111111 if true. I still remember all the quotes last year of "other developers will follow suite!" in defence of this
Vice
Activision need to die. Seriously. I won't be buying it at those prices for sure. I also didn't buy MW2 due to its high retail price. I do have MW1 which I purchased as that was priced reasonably.
Spookie
As I said on twitter expect Call of Duty: SUPERMARKET WARFARE this year again then. If people learned from last year read as: if the UK population aren't dribbling retards most will pick it up super cheap at ASDA, Tescos and their ilk. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted May 4, 2010 Veteran Share Posted May 4, 2010 Bwahahahah Where's that nub who wants to buy 10 copies as well. You're about to be £550 lighter come November  Edit: AB, other devs will follow suite ;) CE's have dramatically gone up in price already. £100 for Halo Reach Legendary (which I'm buying )
jelli
I managed to pick up MW2 for £19.99 thanks to Games awful (read amazing) method of handling vouchers. To be fair I think I am going to skip it anyway with the way Activision is behaving, plus MW2 was shocking. The only one worth talking about is MW1 really. qdave
?54 seems like a lot of money for a game, which isn't probably too long either. I wonder what will be its north American price.

I've been buying games cheap as chips online for the past 6-9 months, from £28-£34 for new releases on release day. I want to know of one person who doesn't think they're a complete ass plant for buying the NV Goggle MW2 bundle now when they look back at their bank statements. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted May 4, 2010 Veteran Share Posted May 4, 2010 We've had this discussion before, but people find value in different things. To us the goggles were a complete waste of money & mere toys. For other people though they like to collect stuff hence the things included in CE's like figures & novelty items (think Forza 3 & the keyrings etc). Other games just include DLC tokens which can save money down the line instead of buying it from XBL/PSN direct. Game prices have stayed high the past year. Just look at Heavy Rain. It's barely dropped below ?40 and it's more than 2 months old. There's nothing special about the contents either, just a normal game. Online prices have stayed high too on XBLA/PSN outside of the deals at xmas etc. Lots more games at the ?10 mark.

I know, and you'll never convince me otherwise someone spending ?100+ on a collectors edition needs their head examined :p I don't mind some collectors editions, heck the Forza 3 one was pretty sweet, but you could get it for like ?30 the other month. Richard Hammond
Ridiculous, the engine is already in place they dont need to charge extra for the development time on the engine.
Corris Veteran Posted May 4, 2010 Veteran Share Posted May 4, 2010 Not surprising at all, it seems while Activision became the old hated EA, they have managed to get even worse, lol. Ah well, I'll be at ASDA or Tesco come midnight on the release date no doubt, with friends, all getting it for cheaper than the stupid price they stick on it. ObiWanToby
Modern Warefare 2 was not worth the 60 bucks. The map pack is not worth the 15 bucks, especially since it includes recycled maps. It will continue to sell which is a shame. Whatever.
richardsim7
Well if Sainsbury's do the ?26 thing again, I'll be SO happy because now I work for them, so I'm guaranteed a copy and I get staff discount :D
Jimmy0
Roll on the supermarket wars and you'll be able to pick it up sub £30 come launch day (although I won't be).

Nicholas-c Veteran Posted May 4, 2010 Veteran Share Posted May 4, 2010 Aren't all games RRP of ~?50 anyway? No where will sell a single copy for that price though.
WastedJoker
Where do you go to the cinema? Plus last time I checked not every film was 90 minutes. And two completely different mediums ?10 was conservative. 1 adult ticket + medium coke is easily more than ?10 at Cineworld, Boldon. And yes, plenty of films are more than 90 minutes. Which noly strengthens my comparison that ?55 for dozen's of hours gaming is good value. The media difference is not really that great - both entertainment, imo. Like Audioboxer said earlier, they're two different mediums. Plus, when I went to see Avatar in 3D back in December (which was the first time I'd been to the cinema since Borat came out :p ), it cost me about ?6.50, and that film was nearly 3 hours long. Aren't all games RRP of ~?50 anyway? No where will sell a single copy for that price though. Spot on. It's very rare nowadays that you actually see a store selling a 360 or PS3 game for its full retail price. I have seen a few greedy gits though. When Guitar Hero III came out, the guitar bundle retailed for ?69.99, and GAME were selling it instore for ?74.99. And to top off GAME's greed, back in February, I saw a used copy of DiRT 2 for the PS3 for ?39.99! I got it on the 360 brand new for ?17.95 back in November! Considering you can buy games for ?30~ for dozens of hours of gaming enjoyment i dont see why they should charge nearly double the price just because its a popular game considering all the hard work is already done in terms of game engine, all Treyarch have to do is make the content. Exactly. And with all the recent controversy surrounding Infinity Ward and their unfortunately former employees, hopefully, less people will be inclined to buy Black Ops. Also, I bet a lot of regular people would consider boycotting the series if they knew that Bobby Kotick wants to charge even more for games! Just bear in mind, people, it's not really Activision itself that's being greedy, it's Bobby Kotick, their CEO. He's the new Jack Thompson: an annoying little parasite who needs to be put in his place.
