Lost Planet 2 Gamespot Review.... ouch

Recommended Posts

5.5/10

On paper, Lost Planet 2 sounds like it should be the only sci-fi shooter you need. There are full-featured online modes, a good-sized campaign that supports up to four players, and gross alien bugs that demand to be shot. Furthermore, the game is beautiful, generously stuffed with small details and boasting a great cohesive art design that refuses to be overshadowed by the impressive technology that powers it. But all of these important features are wrapped around basic mechanics gone horribly awry. Too many missions are either broken, tedious, or downright frustrating, and basic mechanics are focused on removing control from the player in lieu of providing a legitimate challenge. There should be a sense of triumph when you defeat a gigantic creature after a protracted struggle. In Lost Planet 2, you're just relieved that it's over.

Wonder if it's really that bad!

I thought the review kind of covered that?

I assume he hasn't seen the review yet. I just saw it.. and wow it's pretty much all presentation and broken gameplay.

Glad I cancelled my preorder 2 weeks ago now! I somehow knew it'd turn out this way.

Apparently it's good if you have 3 co-op buddies to play with though.

I could be wrong but didn't the first one also get slammed for it's controls as well? Could it be these game journalists have just forgotten that and it is actually the same controls? That they just feel even clunkier now than they did 3 years ago, or however long it was when the first one came out? I am being serious when asking this, I know a whole lot of people complained about the controls in the first game, and I always was saying it was just a matter of getting used to them.

I was one of the few people here that liked the first one, I know there were a few of us who did, but hell I even liked the MP of the first one as well. So I still have this on my gamefly rental queue, even though chances are I will never get around to playing it since Red Dead Redemption comes out a week later along with other games, so think I just convinced myself to take it off my rental queue and wait to rent it at a later date, pretty much when it always slows down a bit in summer.

Yeah I remember being one of the people that told you I hated it because of the controls. And after trying the demo a few months back, I hate the controls even more LOL, esp after shooter controls have been streamlined quite well the past few years. After reading these reviews I think I'll take this one off my queue. I guess that means one less party member for you, sorry.

one of my friend downloaded it and played it in his modded 360.. He said they tried to make it like Gears of war but failed and there is no single player campaign. The campaign mode is just a series of bot battles unlike the first one which was story driven.

I would believe that review. The first game was an amazing single player experience told in typical Capcom fashion that won me over quickly. The game was a nice mix of on foot and VS Suit battle. After playing the demo and watching game play videos, this game has gone completely in the other direction. Being alone in a harsh world was a better perspective than being with a team of four people blasting away and everything; half the time at the computer's pace. Co op campaigns are great but when the whole aspect of the single player campaign is changed to focus around playing with your friends, it changes the game completely.

This was one of my more anticipated games of 2010 because of how fun and interesting the original was, needless to say I'm extremely disappointed.

Yeah, I just officially took Lost Planet 2 off my Gamefly queue. 3 reasons...

  1. All the bad reviews just can no longer be ignore. One or two I could write it off, but it is consistently getting slammed.
  2. The fact I would not be able to play the CoOp with anyone I actually know
  3. Then several reasons...
    Skate 3
    Red Dead Redemption
    Mario Galaxy 2
Prince Of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (which I have unrealistically high hopes as supposedly it is more based on the Sands of Time which I loved)
    Mod Nation Racers
ALL OF THE ABOVE come out over the next 3 weeks.
Never-mind the fact I also wanted to check out either Blur or Split Second and/or both as I like me a good arcade racing game.
So Lost Planet 2 honestly never stood a chance against this release line up. Not sure why I did not take it off my queue sooner TBH, but it just hit me now it might be a good idea to just remove it completely.

Still may check out a friends copy, but not even sure if I want to waste my time.

This could be a really fun game if it's that difficult.

Here's a new genre: Sci fi horror

I gave the demo a quick play yesterday. I admit that it looks pretty, and the single available map seemed quite fun, but the controls were a nightmare to get my head around, and it also just launched me in to the middle of it, no storyline or anything. Now I assume that is merely the demo's fault, and that the complete game has some form of plot, but for the demo this was a point that has put me off playing any further or buying the whole game.

To be honest I thought the first had clunky controls and hence I never bothered with it, same with this one I guess but I hadn't really been tempted by it to start with.

Controls were never an issue for me in LP1, tbh it's the AI problems being reported putting me off.

Resi 5 I could handle because it was only Shiva you had to deal with, but LP2 is way worse with 3 other team mates.

Hope Capcom rethink their co-op models.
