Treemonkeys
I find gaming on the iPhone pretty poor (but I know I'm the minority). I hate the emulated dpads etc. I don't mind games that actually use the touch screen but "ported" games are just hard to control I agree, it is way too awkward and frustrating for me, unless the game is designed purely for touch controls I don't even bother. red.
Never gave buying a PSP Go a second thought, still rocking my 2000 slim with 5.50 Gen-D3 Same (Y) And i'm still playing it regularly because i have plenty of spare time when commuting to work on the train. If you look through the 'big' games and ports from the consoles there are some genuinely very good games. I'm currently playing Downstream Panic! and it's very fun. I just don't like the control system. Touch games are nice, and so are accelerometer controlled games too. But the simulated d-Pad and buttons just mess up the screen and I can never seem to use them properly. I had a PSP-3000 but sold it, but kept the wifes. But must admit I have no need to a handheld console as I never travel and if I do I'm driving anyway :p

DrunknMunky Veteran Posted May 13, 2010 Veteran Share Posted May 13, 2010 Answer: yes. In 2009 PSP Sales Were Down, PS3 Sales Were Up Sony released today its financial results for the 2009 fiscal year (April 1 - March 31), and where there's results, there's hardware sales figures. The Networked Products & Services division - of which Sony Computer Entertainment is a part - saw its sales fall by 10%, the company blaming exchange rates, along with both a decline in sales of Vaio computers and the PlayStation Portable for the drop. That finger-pointing is justified in the case of the PSP, which fell from 14.1 million units sold in 2008 to just 9.9 million in 2009. That's a big drop, despite the launch of the PSPgo, and and goes to show that it's not just you who wants a new PSP console. Sony could do with it as well. On the bright side, in spite of the drop in NP&S sales and an overall loss for the year for Sony as a whole, the PS3 continued its upwards swing, going from 10.1 million sold in 2008 to 13 million in 2009 (with projections of 15 million being sold in 2010). Finally, showing the PlayStation 2 is far from an afterthought, the old warhorse sold 7.3 million units in FY 2009, an admirable performance considering it sold 7.9 million the year before. If the PSP isn't careful, it might slide fast enough to be outsold in FY2010 by a console that's ten years old. http://kotaku.com/5537936/
etempest
Back during the PSP Go's launch, there was talk about a UMD -> download program. However Sony had to scrape it due to licensing issues. The other big thing that bothered me was I was expecting the batter live to be better, surprised it started using some proprietary cables, and no card reader. Mind you it costs money now, but not so much in the future, but you can by a 2x micro-sd -> Duo Pro adapter and get 32gb Storage on the regular PSP. Jason S. Global Moderator Posted May 13, 2010 Global Moderator Share Posted May 13, 2010 as far as im concerned, the Go! is a prototype or test for a PSP2. i think Sony wanted to gauge the market prior to releasing a UMD-less PSP2. and from the sales, i think going w/o UMD is a bad decision. perhaps they can make another proprietary format :p

Look at the iPhone/iPod, it's diong just fine without a physical format. Sony just needs a good "store" application that will run on PC AND PSP2

DRM the sticks, they make no noise, and are extremely portable.

Jimmy0
If they are going to announce a PSP2 at E3, then yeah, I'd say the Go! is pretty much dead (not that it ever really got off the ground in the first place).
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted May 13, 2010 Veteran Share Posted May 13, 2010 I think to combat piracy they'll follow suit with Steam and their DD methods. Isn't that what the PSP Go does now? Can you pirate those games? Having that control is what matters to Sony the most. They were hurt badly all through the PSP's life span due to piracy. RuairiOG
Ordered One Last Night. I don't think it's dead... The Playstation Store seems to have quite a variety of games including Mini's and such...

Yeah but the reason some people bought the PSP in the first place was because they knew they could pirate games, if Sony combat this then those same people just won't bother buying again, and new buyers that are pirates won't either. Well there's always a way to pirate, the experience you need to do it is what stops people though. As it progressively gets easier is when you see the boom in sales. lol out loud. laugh out loud out loud? :p

They're going to announce the new PSP in E3 so either you could get the new PSP when it comes out or get a better price on the PSPGo when the price comes down because of the new announcement... TDQuiksilver
I still love the PSP Go's design over the original PSP's. Had they done this from the beginning... Still love mine. The proper PSP2 concept looks awesome.
Jason S. Global Moderator Posted May 14, 2010 Global Moderator Share Posted May 14, 2010 it would be neat if Sony went the way of Valve's Steam. imagine buying full games online, and downloading them to your PS3 or PC w/ a Steam-like app. you could sync your PSP2 w/ your acct and freely move purchased games on and off your PSP2. no UMD required, just a huge memory stick (cost prohibitive right now.) Thats how it is already. So long as you're PSP and PS3/Media Go! software is activated you can download/copy and delete games as often as you like.
