MCV's reporting word from a "senior global publishing source" that both 360 and PS3 will see further price cuts this year.

The moves could be announced as soon as E3, says the piece.

The site's speculate that Nintendo may also drop the price of Wii this year. When contacted, Sony "laughed off" the story, while Nintendo said, "We currently have no plans to cut the price of Wii in the UK."

Sony dropped the price of PS3 at gamescom last year. MCV's saying the "likelihood" is that Sony will bring the console down to £200 at the entry level.

A cheaper 360 is expected to compliment the launch of Natal, now confirmed for October.

Don't think Sony will be too bothered till after summer but I could see Microsoft cutting to clear the old stock before the Slim so probably announced at E3.

As for the Wii, I think it's already got a price cut in the UK but not officially. It's ?140ish at most places. People just aren't buying it as much any more so I think Nintendo have told retailers they can reduce the price a little or maybe retailers are taking the hit but ?40 seems quite steep to swallow themselves.

I think MS and Nintendo will battle it out to reach the £100 mark first. Especially with MS introducing Natal in October, Nintendo have to keep on the heat as much as they can with competitive pricing.

We probably won't see that £100 figure anytime soon though.

Wonder if they'll sell the arcade without natal

im waiting for the natal combo to come out (considering my 360 just RROD). I'm sure they'll be demoing some sort of combo model @ e3 this year.

And i can't really see Sony dropping the price though, they are doing really well now and i think for 300 bucks it's still a really good price point.

The catch 22 is, if you don't bundle Natal in the boxes then it could run the risk of being largely unused. Introducing add-ons like this mid-life cycle is really important to get right so there is a good adoption rate.

If they bundle it they are guaranteed those high numbers. If they don't, then it'll struggle imo (for any add-on this is the case).

Bundling Natal in the box means they can't really drop the price though. It's estimated cost is ?50 right? Right now you can buy an Arcade + game for ?120. The RRP of those deals is ?150 though.

They could possibly introduce Natal in the box without increasing the price at all, while still technically cutting the price.

So come E3, Xbox 360 Arcade + game (usually something crap like Sonic Super Tennis / Pure), + Natal = ?150.

^ My prediction :p

it makes sense, where they have a price cut, but they don't because the price of the natal bundle is just the same price as it was before the price cut. Im really interested to see how they progressed with it since last year, especially peter molyneux demo with the kid... that was a giant mind **** when i first saw him.

Game consoles have been known for a long time to retail for $150

I remember when the N64 came with 2 controllers for that price.

If the 360 gets a price cut sooner rather than later then a "slim" could very well come true since the cuts could clear the channel. But we'll have to wait and see how it all works out.

Good news ineed.. My cousin wants to pick up a ps3 so that we can game online together (he lives out of state) and only has a wii. So price cuts are always welcome. But, if the price goes low enough on an xbox I may pick one up myself.

It's already banned, he can't sign into XBL with it.

Where I work, there are two guys here who have multiple banned Xbox 360s and they can get them all on Xbox Live. sad.gif

ya, I read it takes some work but is possible to change the internal xbox code and unban it. But the hack I want to do would get it re banned within a week anyway.

That exploit was fixed a long time ago (as in years ago), so unless they have really old consoles, they are probably lying to you :p
