-KJ
I sometimes feel guilty for buying most of my games for so cheap. But my wallet stays happy and I feel I get more bang per buck with my purchases as I only play them a few hours per week. One reason I don't play so much is because I live in the sticks; I only have satellite Internet as an option which is terrible for online 'twitch' games. If I had a great connection, I'd probably be wasting my time with them and playing with online friends and such before the game gets 'stale' and the bandwagon leaves for another game. But I don't. So I'm pretty much stuck with single-player and offline splitscreen games. So, how often do you guys buy games on release date? Do you buy any of your games used? Do you wait until they drop down in price? Most of my games are used or on sale. Only a handful were purchased at retail price.
Raa
I buy a lot of games on sale, not often second hand though - never for multiplayer, or where an activatable key is used. I'm just not trusting of the source! :p That said, i'll pre-order collector editions so I don't miss out on them, or the bonuses. But i'd far prefer buying them on sale, games in general are just too expensive.
SimplySchizo
I buy them all new. Depending on the game determines whether I grab it 1st day or wait for it to go on sale or reach greatest hits. Used are $5 cheaper here anyways. ?
timster
i've bought most of my games used. $65 - $70 for a brand new title just isn't worth it to me if i'm going to play it for a week and then forget about it I have the EB Games (Gamestop) EDGE card to get a % off of the used title so I end up paying less for a title after tax that the sticker price. and i'm fine with that i've started renting games at Blockbuster under the "games pass" $30 a month and i can rent as many titles as i want in that month, downside being 1 title at a time oh, my games are on the Xbox360

-KJ
The Orange Box was my first purchase for the 360 at full price -- having never played the Half-Life 2 games before, it was a definite bargain with the other included games and episodes. Loved it! Halo 3 is the other game I bought at full price. Hmm, I don't know what else I bought at full price... :/ Oh, Torchlight? But that was a bargain at its retail price! bryonhowley
I only buy when the game has gone down to $20.00 or less.

Purple Haze
95% new, but most of those I wait until they go down to $40 or less. Stuff I just can't wait for (about anything Bioware, Madden, GTAs, etc) I'll go full price on.
blade1269
Hey, Used most of the time 95%. Some times Like GOW 3 got new. Ratchet and clank i did new.
Spookie
All the time new. No point buying second hand. *points at various DLC incentives out of the box these days* Some times I'll wait for something to dip in price (sale or otherwise) if I'm wary about it. D.J.P
Mix for me too. At least 1/3 of my console collection is pre-owned. Many more brought on sale. Only a few full price (normally collectors editions).
Pablo2008jedi
90% of all my purchases are either reduced price, sale or pre-owned, I don't feel guilty or ashamed. My wallet simply can't handle the price of games and I'll only buy new releases when I feel its worth the cash. I'd be more happy for new games to cost £20-25. For instance picking up Nier for £14.99 made me very happy, and glad I didn't pay full price.
Jimmy0
I always buy my games new, it just depends whether I get them day 1 or not. If the game really interests me and I can get a pre-order in or know I can get it day 1 for around ?30~ then I will pick it up (wallet permitting). Otherwise I'll wait a few months until a sale pops up and get it new for around ?20~ (which I have done recently on games like AC2 and Batman:AA). metal_dragen Veteran Posted May 13, 2010 Veteran Share Posted May 13, 2010 I generally buy my games new, but my 360 collection is about half new, half used. That's mostly due to the fact that I was late to the 360 (got mine for Christmas 2008), so I went out and bought quite a few used games that were older titles I couldn't find new anymore. These days, I'd say 90% of my purchases are new, but I'm also more selective about what I buy new, since I'm generally paying more. I've pre-ordered most of the games I'm really interested in (Mass Effect 2, Alan Wake, Alpha Protocol, Fallout: New Vegas). On titles that I don't plan to pre-order, I'll generally wait a few months for the price to drop before I make a decision.
SaltLife
I don't buy games often, except for a few series. I always buy new, but not before I've finished my last purchase. I pick up wii games for the kids on sale because there is just so many, and they're all generally the same.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted May 13, 2010 Veteran Share Posted May 13, 2010 I've yet to buy a used game this generation. I'm OCD when it comes to buying them, I have to have a "perfect collection". More so with the 360 games, as I never buy Classic versions. With the PS3 I don't mind buying the Platinum titles, but they still have to be new :p It's something I picked up from the PS1 days and they had those awful plastic jewel cases. I went over them with a fine toothcomb to buy copies without cracks/scratches :p Plus the platinum/classic cases are just fugly/don't match lol. I think all but 3 games I've bought this year were on sale and the rest I got for very low prices.
acnpt
I buy new, but then sell some back to shops like 'cex'.
Drunk Ninja
i used to buy pre ownded, but I don't trust that anymore because of the damage some of them have had. I only buy new, usually ?20 or less. I've never bought a game as soon as it was released, or pre-ordered one before, until now. I usually wait for them to come down in price, 15 or 20 quid is what I spend for new. BoneyardBrew Member Posted May 13, 2010 Member Share Posted May 13, 2010 I only buy must-have games on their release date new. If I don't want a game badly enough to play it right away I just wait for a Steam sale or something similar to happen. I wanted Battlefield: Bad Company 2 after I played the Beta, but didn't purchase it immediately. I just didn't want to spend the money at the time. Then it turned out waiting was a good idea, because I was able to snag a digital copy straight from EA for around $20.
Hedon
I ALWAYS buy games new. I will look to find them on sale (example would be $10 off Alan Wake pre-order at Amazon). In the case of say, Madden, I will many times wait until the new version of Madden comes out and buy the previous one. I picked up Madden 09 brand new for $9.99 at Target, which is after Madden 10 came out. So I will pay anywhere from $10-$60, and it will always be a NEW game, and I know that the developers are getting some money for the title. LingeringSoul
Always new games for me. I've only purchased one used game this generation, and that was mostly on a whim. Developers need support in order to keep creating, and I have the means to pay for games new, so why not? I will buy games on sale when the opportunity arises, though. Sometimes if you pre-order a game you can save $5 depending on the game and where you buy it from. It's not a huge discount, but if I know that I'm going to buy the game when it comes out, then it makes sense.
Razorwing
Always new.. unless if it's something old that I didn't get before.
SaLiVa
Used normally, unless Amazon comes up with reasonable prices for their games (They sometimes do). Normally average around ?15 a game.
Corris Veteran Posted May 14, 2010 Veteran Share Posted May 14, 2010 My Ps3 games are pretty much all new from what I remember. As I got my 360 nearly a month ago, all the games I have bought for it have been pre-owned besides getting the "Classic" versions of Mass Effect and Halo 3 new, and also Splinter Cell Conviction new. Buying pre-owned games doesn't bother me, as long as they aren't in bad condition or have a stupid case that sticks out like a thumb I don't mind.
