Massiveterra
With gamefly, i save more money than buying new and used
soniqstylz
I split between buying new, having it bought for me, or buying as a "keep" from Gamefly.
Brandon H Supervisor Posted May 14, 2010 Supervisor Share Posted May 14, 2010 we should turn this into a poll used onsale both new ect.
etempest
Mostly mix of used, and sale (or price dropped to around $30). Only if I'm really anticipation it, I'll buy it new at $60. Most game stores focus on current product, a lot of times I have to go online, usually half.com
Michael1406
I buy new, but only when the game is down to £30 or less, which giong by the current trend is not too long after initial release. I very rarely buy used games, and never buy newly released games pre-owned.
Xilo
I never buy used. Why buy used when I can spend $5 more and get it brand new? PC games I always wait for them to go on sale on Steam before I buy.
Kyle A
PC games I always wait for them to go on sale on Steam before I buy. Same here. I make all my purchases on Steam and always wait for their weekend deals and holiday specials because they can not be beaten (usually).
Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted May 14, 2010 Veteran Share Posted May 14, 2010 Generally if it is a big title game that i like i will purchase it new, however, its a game that has been out for a while i will look for used. or discounted versions of the game. enigma-penguin Veteran Posted May 14, 2010 Veteran Share Posted May 14, 2010 I usually buy mine on sale, there are very few games I want badly enough to buy them on release day. Though I will admit to pre ordering SC2 :p
giantpotato
I don't think I've ever bought a game brand new at full price, now that I think about it. I always wait for some kind of sale even if it's just a few bucks off.
Crompee
I always wait for them to go on sale and then buy them. With almost any game getting a huge amount of hype these days, regardless of how good it is.. Its hard to judge which games are actually worth buying at release day and which are not. So i tend to just wait and buy the games which interest me when they are cheaper (or if they've lived up to the hype and people actually are giving them rave reviews after purchase). First game in a long while im going to be buying on release day, is Starcraft 2 (the game before that was WoW:TBC, quit just before WotLK). Skulltrail
I only buy new games when they are well worth it or if I can't find cheap enough used. If its a GameStop exclusive promotion, maybe. But it HAS to be a game I'll be playing for months, not a week or a few hours and get bored of. For that I rent games at Blockbuster.
DigitalE
Probably 50/50 here; it really depends on the game.
c3ntury
I often buy my games secondhand, I can't game online on my collection, and the range of classic games is so huge yet so cheap - I can usually never pass up the offer.
Tzvi Friedman Veteran Posted May 17, 2010 Veteran Share Posted May 17, 2010 I feel guilty buying games used, as I know it's crippling the industry somewhat, but I can't reliably justify paying $60 for any kind of "perishable" and ephemeral entertainment. Games that i know will last me a good long time, say 60+ hours, I will spend money on. Borderlands, Ninja Gaiden 2, Dragin Age: Origins, GTA IV are my most recent new game purchases, and they all have gotten copious amounts of gameplay mileage. rajputwarrior
depends on the game, if it has MP or is just epic (say mass effect 2) i'll pay full price the day they come out. But lately their have been some good games for cheap (like Platinum hit ps3 games...)
killbot13
It's so funny, when I was younger making less money I bought most of my games new at full price. I did not live near a game store (Funcoland at the time) where I could buy used, and I didn't have the internet to find deals. I had fewer games because I only got the highest rated, even then getting burned many times. Now in my mid-30's I almost never buy new games when they first come out. I buy so many that I just couldn't justify the expense. On the original XBox I owned 110 games, and on XBox 360 I'm up to 77. I have to sell them once I'm done with them to fund other games. Since I've been 25 the only games I paid full price for are ... Halo 1, Oblivion, and New Super Mario Wii as far as I can remember. Here's what I currently got to give you an idea of my buying patterns, which is wait 6 months to 2 years buying new or used... Assassin's Creed 2 $19 Bioshock 2 $19 Brothers in Arms HH $9 Burnout Paradise $22 Call of Duty 4 $20 Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion $9 (bought this again used, because it's that dang good) Fallout 3 $18 Far Cry 2 $13 FEAR 2 $13 Forza Motorsport 2 $5 Gears of War 2 GotY $22 Left 4 Dead 2 $22 Lego Batman $7 Overlord 2 $11 PopCap Arcade Volume 2 $11 Pure $7 Red Faction Guerilla $13 Tomb Raider Underworld $13 My resources for cheaper games ... cheapassgamer - for new game deals Amazon - for new or used through resellers Gamefly store - when they clear out inventory and offer free shipping you need to jump on it Craigslist - sometimes you can find locals who are selling cheap - I sell more than buy on CL though Gamestop - for the occasional buy 2 get 1 free or weekly sales in their email updates, otherwise their prices aren't so good - they used to have much better deals but not for the last year
