Build 2600 was compiled 08/17/01

So it's not possible for you to have had it for two weeks.

Also the final build was compiled on 08/18/01

I don't know the name of that one though.....

PM5k, maybe it was still 2600.. they probably added the 120-day that they're releasing on betaweb. on the MS site, it doens't say any other build number other than 2600 though, as far as i know...

this is what a lot of people are reporting to me. i gots no beta account =p but the eval filename from betaweb should be usa_2600_x86eval.pro_whistler.iso as i understand it.

What is intersting to me, is that they went from build 2556 or something to 2600 all the sudden.

I don't see why everyone is tying build 2600 to the hackers thing. I've never been there before, nor have a I ever heard of it. I'm sure that it's the SAME situation for *most* employees of M$.

Having a build number like 2542 isn't good for RTM, so jumping upto 2600 just makes it all nice. Jumping to 3000 would have been too much.

NEway, it would be funny if M$ didn't remove "all" the beta features and left in some sort of timeout or limitation... I'm sure they haven't but it would be funny.

Here is my understanding about the RTM build number.

I will only talk about Pro version of XP.

On August 18, M$ did release the interim build 2600 which got an evaluation period of 180 days.

Yesterday, Windows XP went gold and RTM did release 2 different version of it. Both dated August 23, 2001 and still having build number 2600 mostly 2600.0 i think.

1- For the Beta Tester it does have an evaluation period of 120 days.

File name is: usa_2600__x86eval.pro_whistler.iso

Size: 488.59 mb :china:

2- For OEM no evaluation period. No file name yet since not leaked. :(

So currently the version that got leaked is the one M$ made available to their Beta tester and probably in the next few days the OEM version of Windows XP RTM is gonna be leaked too.

And we are still waiting for a corporation key (VLK). :bandit:
