soniqstylz
This is another Michael Pachter soundbite so salt can be liberally pinched but if it is correct? wowzers! According the Grand Wizard Of Foresight, Microsoft paid Rockstar $75 million to take GTA IV from PS3 exclusive to multi-format.?GTA IV was going to be a PS3 exclusive, but Microsoft paid Rockstar and Take-Two to make it a non-exclusive, and they paid them a lot,? said Pachter. ?The number I?ve heard, and I?m sure this is right, is $75m, and that probably includes the funding for the first DLC packs too. It?s more than the $50m that people talk about.? Casting the spell ?Gossipy Chit-Chat Fantabulosa?, Grand Wizard P continued his story and told that Sony asked Rockstar for something else exclusive and were told about a ?Zombie game?. Unfortunately Dead Rising and Left 4 Dead arrived so the project was canned and they came up with the idea of The Agent. This probably explains why ?The Agent? has been very low on the radar ? work probably did not start on it until GTA IV was finished. I'm using the [] brackets to emphasize my stance that a good chunk of what Pachter says is a load of garbage he seemingly made up or pulled out of his arse, so also hence the emphasis on the first line as well. The $50 million number was taken from some of Take Two's financial reports, so I don't know how people would miss another $25 million (note: that $50 million was a loan as well, so $25 million for multi-platform release and timed exclusivity both in word and deed probably made MS about 10 times that in console sale revenue and console royalties on the game). Massiveterra
1. Isn't Michael Pachter wrong about everything? 2. Wasn't the amount MS paid for DLC basically a loan?
Hedon
Pachter is a joke, and so is this.
iconboy
personally i dont see rockstar ever making gta 4 exclusive to the ps3. i mean there was a time when all the gta games looked like they would always be sony only- but with the huge increase in popularity of bother the 360 and live it was a no brainer to go multi platform. now can i see rockstar bluffing and holding this over microsoft's head as a way to make money? ABSOLUTLEY. now how much? who knows. Its well known that Microsoft paid $50,000,000 for exclusive rights (timed) for the DLC packs. i dont know how many they sold but at $20 a pop microsoft would have had to sell 1,250,000 copies of gay tony and 1,250,000 copies of lost and damned. thats 2,500,000 digital copies! and lets say that microsoft only sees 70% of that revenue that means that they have to sell even more JUST TO BREAK EVEN!!! does anyone know how many copies they sold over live? Where do you "break even" when you advertise? You spend money on a billboard or radio ad and then... well, you don't break even. You set aside some money to advertise your business to hopefully bring in more business. I'm sure that the exclusiveness of GTA4 DLC knocked some people off the fence into Microsoft's side. Massiveterra
The timed DLC was a strategy to push more consoles AND games. Which at the time of GTA4's release there was a spike in console sales and the 360 version of the game sold double than that of ps3's. The spike in console sales didn't end up as large as MS had hoped but it still was higher than the previous year. So even if MS had invested money in timed DLC, you can't look at returns purely made by Gay Tony/Lost & Damned.

Everything there is exactly right, except the sales numbers, there was just over a million copy difference (~7.8 million 360 / ~6.5 million PS3)
Ridlas
The first DLC was horrible anyways. The second was way better.

+Anarkii Subscriber² Posted May 16, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted May 16, 2010 I wonder if any of them are selling for the PS3 right now (the expansions). I know they sold one copy at least. I waited since it was announced for the Xbox, and I stuck with Sony. Glad I did too :)

Glad I did too :) I hope a lot of people buy it on the PS3, they would be missing out on some great expansions if they didn't. I prefer having it on the 360, but it's good that we have a choice now as to which system to put it on if we prefer.
Jimmy0
I for one also purchased the expansions for the PS3, just haven't got around to playing them yet.
