DerkPY
How do I set XP to auto boot my machine when the network is started up? The XP machine is the main machine i.e. connects to the internet - so how do I make it boot when the other machine is booted? Is it possible? And, how do I make XP automatically shutdown when the other PC is switched off? - Providing the XP machine is not in use of course!
Spike101M69
i think you use "wake on LAN" if it's in your BIOS. so check your BIOS and enable that feature if it's availble.
DerkPY
Yes, thankyou found the feature but unfortunatly it doesn't work :( I think it would work if I had a room of PCs which were set to Boot when LAN is detected and one PC which connected these PCs to the network. So booting this one PC would boot all of the PCs in the room. Unfortunatly I want the PC to boot which is the main server so there is no network without this PC so there is thus no LAN! Should really of thought of that before I asked although I still would like to know about the shutdown option. Thankyou thought coz I found some other nice features in the Wake-Up section of my bios. :)
MxxCon
no, Wake On Lan is what you need. the way it works is as long as your puter is plugged in, network card monitor traffic, as soon as it detect "Magic Packet" it will turn on that computer. what you need is make sure your server support and configured for Wake On Lan, and then find software/script that will send such Magic Packet. Knight'
***As a side note*** For those that want a "Timed shutdown" type: shudown -i in start > run.

MxxCon
so after you turn on 2nd puter, send WON packet to turn on 1st one before you shut down 2nd puter...run some program that will shut down 1st puter.
