Lingwo
Go with the DS. I have both a PSP and DS and i find myself playing a lot more games on the DS. PSP has the odd gem but not worth buying the console for them. You get tonnes more selection with the DS. I still have the original japanese fat DS, got it on release... think i should upgrade it?

+Anarkii Subscriber² Posted May 17, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted May 17, 2010 It's not dieing.. the PSP was DoA. When it was released it had alot of good quality games. Then DarK AleX came along and hacked it. (which is a good thing, it opened it up to what the portable could really do). The downside was since it got hacked, we started seeing backups of isos on torrent sites, which effectively killed the PSP and put it where it is today. Game Dev's simply don't want to make a game only to have it pirated and not make any money for it. Also its long due for hardware update. The iPhone can play most of the psp's games. Things like that is the reason id say go a DS.

Good games were scarce and releases on an actual good game were spaced out so far, people forget they owned a psp. Games like Wipeout Pure, Ridge Racer, Lumines, Metal Gear Acid and a few mediocre sports titles only carried the hardware so far, which wasn't really far at all. I do agree though, piracy plays top role in its demise, aside from design flaws and price tag. No way Devs just didn't want to come near it. Totally agree. As for those mentioning psp and its emulation, I played gbc/nes/snes/sms/gen and many other formats fine on my dslite. All without having to alter the system in any way. Felix_
PSP, quality always blows me away every time I see it. I like the DS, pokemon and FF games are always fun but the PSP games seem so much more engrossing. Every time I see my little bro playing his PSP I have to stop and think 'wow...I still can't believe that those games are running on that tiny little thing'. Minifig
I vote PSP - there are tons of great games, coming soon too... PSP GO launch caused a rebirth... imho, the PSP isn't dying... lol ---- Sony exec says PSP Go 'confused' consumers, might have been too expensive In an interview with IndustryGamers, SCEA Senior Vice President of Publisher Relations Rob Dyer admitted that the PSP Go did "confuse" customers, and that the "higher price point didn't help matters any either" -- not exactly the sort of thing you hear Sony say every day. Does that mean we'll be seeing updated hardware or a lower price anytime soon? Dyer unsurprisingly wouldn't say when pressed, adding only that Sony is "going back and re-communicating" with consumers. Link. More reading here. The PSP Go is poised to go down as the biggest failure in recent video gaming history: According to Media Create, a mere 1,275 units were sold all over Japan between March 1 and 7. By way of comparison: The Nintendo DS Lite (not the DSi or the XL) found 4,316 buyers in the same time frame. The regular PSP (the best portable gaming device ever in my opinion), on the other hand, was the No. 1 console, selling 64,808 units in that week. My link. In some ways, the PSP Go is a good idea because it caters to PSP fanboys who can afford to spend for it, yet the Go is a poor strategy for convincing potential new buyers. Sales figures have demonstrated that the product is a failure thus far, especially in Australia. Stateside and in Japan, the Go had a modestly successful debut, but the November sales figures from NPD are in, and they are alarmingly scary for Sony: 1. 1.7 million DS 2. 1.2 million Wii 3. 820,000 Xbox 360 4. 710,000 PlayStation 3 5. 293,000 PSP (PSP-3000 and Go combined) My link I'm curious to know where this "Rebirth" you're talking about is.. Matrix XII
I've had both a PSP and a DS (Lite) and I would recommend the DS. The reason is because it's actually a lot more fun than the PSP and although it's not as much of a media player, (most people have iPod's or iPhone's for that anyways) it just has a better gaming library and I thought the PSP graphics were very, very ghosty which made me almost sick at times when playing it. Now, I have an R4 Revolution which makes the DS a million times better but I heard you can't get those anymore. If you can I'd recommend getting one. If you can't get them anymore I still recommend the DS, I'm sure most people would agree, but there are some that would prefer the PSP over the DS. pjak
I'm curious to know where this "Rebirth" you're talking about is.. I meant rebirth as in more titles being launched... Right before the GO, there were very few titles being launched - especially good ones... Afterwards, however, we have titles such as MotorStorm, LittleBigPlanet, Fat Princess, etc... Even a new God of War, coming soon... To be honest, I don't understand the hate of the PSP system - is it because piracy is harder than just buying a "R4 Revolution" of the DS? I have always used OFW and bought games on UMD - I'm glad to see Sony didn't remove these discs from market when the GO was launched... But I also remember the Nintendo strong point - marketing, marketing and marketing. Selling poor quailty hardware to people who don't care or know any better... Going back to a similar situation was when the Atari Lynx was competing with the Nintendo Gameboy. What was better about the Gameboy? NOTHING! What generated more sales? Gameboy. And why, simple marketing... Lastly, if Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is the "All-Time Best" DS title then that really sums up why the PSP is better... Where are the voices to both dialogue and music? Where is the custom music? To me, it's just not as enjoyable as either GTA LCS or GTA VCS... PS - you can do FAR more with the PSP than just games... Music, video, pictures, Skype and even web browsing (without the need of purchasing extra software too)... I often use my PSP to lookup information when out - like addresses and maps... It's quick and easy - no touchscreens or stylus required...
morgan2074
Hi guys. It's quick and easy - no touchscreens or stylus required... All of those are better done on a modern smart phone. As for china town being the top most rated game. If you believe that site has any worth (and I take it you do since you linked to it), then you will notice the DS has a good number of titles that are scored higher than anything on the PSP. Ultimatly however, that game scoring higher than others means very little as to the quality of the game library as a whole and even less about the quality of titles on a competing system (the PSP). This is from someone that owns a PSP and isn't especially nuts on the DS.
Rudy
you can get Chrono Trigger and a lot of good old style JRPG's on the DS, i would go with the DS. I have a DS Lite and a PSP and i barely touch the PSP at all. My favorite genre is 2d jrpgs and I found the ones on the psp were better... lots of games on the ds felt cheap and rushed
Jason S. Global Moderator Posted May 28, 2010 Global Moderator Share Posted May 28, 2010 i own a DS Lite and PSP-2000. both are amazing, but have different gaming styles. i've played a fair share of games on each. on PSP - i thought Resistance was great, Syphon Filter, Family Guy :shifty: , COD... basically 1st person shooters. im looking fwd to playing the Metal Gear line too on DS - i've played mario kart, legendary starfy  , Super Mario Bros, both Professor Laytons... more 'kiddy' games. although i played a large amount of FF3 and loved that too. hard to decide which to recommend... Kinda moved on from the N64 days. Anyway as a gaming device I'd recommend the DS however I'd say wait two weeks and see what Nintendo shows at E3. It may be that they show us something that is a substantual step up and will be released soon. It could be a disapointment and not due for 6 months in which case you can go the DS or PSP still. Unfortunately I don't think SOny will have much to show in regards to new hardware if they plan to roll out the PSP Go 10 free games campaign next month. If they had new hardware at E3 I'd imagine theyd have done the PSP Go promotion before hand because any announcement would surely cannibilise the upcoming promotions sales. Smigit
Oh and PSP kicks DS asszz on graphics, DS graphics horrible Neither are a powerhouse. I'd say the best games on either system are the ones that use some form of creative art direction/stylization to achieve their end. Also a lot of Nintendo games may look childish without necessarily being kiddie games (zeldas, Marios ect ect) just like I wouldn't call Loco Roco 2 on the PSP a childs game despite its bright graphics and boppy soundtrack. Theres no such thing as "kiddy games and mature games" besides ones targetted directly towards kids (bratz). Pokemon etc are great RPGs and mostly played by adults since anyone who grew up with blue/red is now into there 20's like me. PSP is a dead console compared to the DS, graphics dont matter gameplay does. Get a DS, it will last longer and be used alot more. Theres one thing Nintendo is always king at and thats portable gaming.
deletedxyz
Get the PSP since it supports emulation and has great games, such as Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. However, if you're raring for a Nintendo handheld, I suggest waiting for the 3DS.
