Are you talking Riff's such as the start of Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple, that plays all the way through the song or actual guitar solo's in the middle of a song?

scratch that - I just seen your solo thread!

Crazy Train is probably my number one riff. Even people don't listen to rock wanna headbang.

Can't forget Metallica... Hit the lights, Seek and Destroy, Battery, Blackened, while over-rated now, Enter Sandman. There's just so many!

Edit: Thought of one more. Dire Straights Money for Nothing.

Agreed with almost all the ones mentioned here... especially Enter Sandman and Sweet Child of Mine

Also,

Judas Priest -- Painkiller (and somewhere around the 3 minute mark, it morphs from awesome to ultra awesome)

Led Zeppelin -- Black Dog, Heartbreaker (though seriously, just about everything of theirs is amazing)

Guns N' Roses -- Paradise City (at the end.. at least of the version I have)

Aerosmith -- Walk This Way

.. though I may be meshing riffs with solos/individual song segments in my head. Either way, these never fail to give me a surge of energy.

as a random sidenote, my neck is *still* sore from headbanging at a concert this weekend. Am I getting old, or what?

Also.. I think it's more a bass and drum riff actually, but.. Pink Floyd -- Money is classic.

Any votes for 'Dirt' by Alice in Chains? For some reason, I have been playing that song over and over for the past week. The main riff is amazing.

'Spheres Of Madness' from Decapitated incredible drums as well.

Anything from Meshuggah

OMG

+1 billion

'Spheres of Madness' is one of the best Death metal songs ever. Absolutely amazing.

For those have that have yet to experience Spheres of Madness, enjoy:

Another + on Meshuggah. Their best has to be 'Neurotica' or 'New Millenium Cyanide Christ'

Enter Sandman by Metallica. The riff that turned them into one of the biggest bands on the planet.

And as much as I hate what they have turned into, I have to agree. That riff made them superstars.

Long live Master of Puppets.

Nothing compares.

I am a HUGE Tool fan - seen them 6 times live...(Tabernacle in Atlanta was the best by far, the night Lateralus was released. We were the first to see the Schism video  ) 46 and 2 is much better :).

Living Colour - Cult of Personality

Rage Against the Machine - Bulls on Parade

Megadeth - Sweating Bullets

Van Halen - Aint talkin bout love

Metallica - Master of Puppets

Led Zeppelin - Black Dog

I find it interesting that you credit SRV with Voodoo Child instead of Hendrix. SRV's version was okay but it doesn't even compare to the original Hendrix version in my opinion.
