Xenomorph
Positives: HD resolutions (I just got a 55" 120 Hz LCD HDTV) Blu-ray (I like movies, and with the death of HD-DVD, this seems the way to go) Exclusives! (check Metacritic for the top 360 games. It's like a long list of FPS or multi-system PC/PS3 games. I already have a decent gaming-PC and I'm not a fan of console-FPS games) Games released on both 360/PS3 seemed to be better on PS3 (Final Fantasy 13, etc) Free online (coming from Dreamcast, PS2, PC, and Wii, I'm not use to paying for online games) Price drop ("$299" feels real close to that "$249" that made the Wii seem so cheap) Negative: No PS2 support. I have a mess of PS2 games. Maybe 50 or more. I *wanted* to get a launch PS2, but $600 was more than I could afford at that time. I ended up buying another PS2. The last-model slim (90001 series or something). It sucks needing two systems connected to play my games, but at least I know I have a working system that should last a few more years than my dying Fat PS2. I like the Wii, because the great virtual console (the first time I got to play TurboGrafx-16 games!), and awesome exclusives (New Super Mario Bros, Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, etc), and the perfect backwards compatibility for all my GameCube games. All the goofy Channels (Everybody Votes channel, Check Mii Out channel, etc) and fun family-stuff is great with my daughter. I'm not a fan of the low-res and horrific storage space (or the SD-card work-around), and of course many 3rd party games just aren't that great. Don't even get me started on the online, friends-codes, etc. For the 360, nothing really attracts me to it except for the downloadable games. Supposedly the Live! service is better than PSN (of course you have to pay for it). I don't mind PSN, I just wanted to get some of those Namco games (Soul Calibur 1, PacMan CE, Galaga something-or-other) that only seem to be on 360. One person I know with a 360 has *zero* games on disc. His entire library is supposedly just downloaded games.
gusto5
I bought the PS3 so I could play Fat Princess online  This then led to a multitude of purchases like LBP and MLB:The Show
ramonsjc
I bought my first PS3 Phat for games :) Then I realized I hate everything about the PS3 Controller so I sold it. Resistance 2 was as far as I got in the shooting world of PS3 and my last game was little big planet. Now I have a slim with a Blu-ray remote strictly for Blu-ray Movies. Motoko.
Disappointing? What would you prefer the reasons were for people paying for the Playstation? Ultimately when you look at the Playstation and it's capabilities, there is going to be a different reason for everyone to buy it. For some it's the name, for others the game selection, and for some it was that it's a blu-ray player that does more than just play your blu-ray films. This is what I think and I could be wrong but people who buy a PS3 already have a 360, they buy a PS3 for its BR playback and those nice exclusives like Uncharted and God of War Economically it makes sense to purchase the PS3 as a media center but it's also a game console and allot of people probably don't even see it as that. Another factor, and why I bought mine, is that a lot of 360 games not available on PS3 become available on the PC as well.

slyph
I'd had a 360 since around its launch, I got my PS3 when slim came out, getting ready for FF13 and I've always wanted a blu-ray player.

Not sure if that is true. A lot of my friends have a PS3 and don't have a 360 (the ones that have a 360 don't have a PS3). I don't have a 360 and there are people here that only have a PS3 too. Massiveterra
I know more people that bought PS3's specifically for the Blu-Ray player and casual gaming. These people don't post online, go to gaming sites and messageboards, etc, or play online. But that's just me. I am happy to report that this year, I used my ps3 more for games than watching movies. Icarus ^i^
The games, blu-ray and media capabilities... the library on 360 doesn't interest me so sticking with one system this generation.
game_over
My dads just bought a HD tv today and i seen his PS3 in HD for the first time and i was blown away. Infact its the first thing i've seen anything in HD that wasn't on a computer screen. I'm most definitely picking 1 up, going to sell my Wii and use my HD TV how it's supposed to be used, which will also satisfy my needs for a Blu Ray player. Razorwing
Bought mine for the PS3 exclusives, the blu ray feature is just another bonus. Or you can say it vice versa... both works.

Matrix XII
Yeah pretty much the only reason I picked one up in the first place was for Blu-ray. I play more games on it now than I used to though..
Xerxes
One reason, GT5 :p (whether that game sees the light of day is another story). To be honest I didn't even consider Blu-Ray and would of still bought my PS3 if it didn't have it (mainly because HD-DVD was still kicking around then and I had already invested in a HD-DVD drive for my 360, still have it too, therefore no interest in Blu-Ray at the time). However, in my seemingly endless wait for GT5 I am enjoying what else the PS3 has to offer, that being Blu-Ray, other great games (Uncharted 1 & 2, MGS4 etc) and streaming media. As a X360/PS3 owner I don't really subscribe to bashing one or the other, I enjoy them both equally and don't regret getting either of them :)
killmaster84
I bought mine for Blu-ray, can't really stand the PS3 controller to play games on it.
Coldgunner
Mines my media hub, I stream my music, movies etc to it alongside blu ray. I also do a decent amount of gaming on it.
