Toss up between Gordon and Dale Jr. It kills me to see how many people dislike Gordon just because he has accomplished so much in such a short period of time.

I here that Gordon drives dirty and complains all of the time, but you can say the same thing about several other drivers on the circuit. Whats obvious is that #24 can back it up.

I have nothing against Jeff Gordon. He just belongs in Formula 1, not Winston (NEXTEL) Cup.

Next week = Jeff Burton's first win at Chicagoland, just watch :pinch:

I would love to see Gordon try the F1 circuit. Unfortunately I feel he would get schooled. Look at all of the drivers that have made the switch to F1 that have failed miserabely. I thought Montoya would actually have a chance when he tried...but has never lived up to the expectations.

Another problem with F1 is that the playing field is not level like the NASCAR circuit. NASCAR is won by the crews and the drivers, the car itself is more or less an afterthought.

Ferarri practically purchases championships, and everyone else fighting for 2nd. Shumaker is an incredible driver but if he was in another vehicle I don't think he would dominate nearly like he does currently.

I dont like any NASCAR drivers, except Cole Trickle

cjbeckwith, at first wanted to like your comments, as I live near Big Bend and 141 . . . in anyevent

He would get schooled like nothing else, agreed, but it would be very amusing!

Are you kidding? The boy rocks. He is the heir apprent to the throne of Schumi! He may not be high in the points standings, via many poor performances by the BMW powerplant, but he is definitely the #2 driver and has been since he made his big pass on Schumi in Brazil a few years back

Good. F1 is much more challenging. The circuits change requiring different racing strategies that extend past driving in left hand circle, the crew the driver, need to work in unison.

You want the best drivers in the world, check out Workd Rally.

Well they used to, this year Renault is in the hunt.

Nice to see another Missouri poster! Don't get me wrong, I think Montoya is incredibly talanted, I just had real hopes that he would walk in and kick everyones @$$. As you said, F1 is far more competitive and you are looking at the best of the best, so my hopes were a little extreme.

F1 circuit would be more entertaining in my eyes if it were up to the drivers, not how much more money was poured into one car vs another. Just my personal opinion. I think that all of the drivers in F1 are incredibly talanted, some just were not lucky enough to catch on with a manufacturer with deep pockets.

Yes and no.

While it is true that a company like Ferrari can and does develop the most technically proficient cars, there are only a handful of people in the world qualified to drive them.

Drivers make a huge difference in the car. Case in point: JPM is an aggressive driver driver that takes corners *very* hard, and those individual driving skills make his car handle differently than anyone else who would drive that car, and little things like that differentate his driving from other drivers inthe same vehicle, like his teammate Ralf S.

Under the idea you proposed that money makes a championship, Barrichello should be in a virtual tie with Schumi. Why isnt Barrichello a 5 time winner of the world championship, or why doesnt he even come close. His "car" (engine and transmission) are exactly the same. Because while Barrichello is a fantastic and patient driver, he lacks the skills that Schumi has.

Look at the McLaren car, on paper it should kick ass, yet the only guy that can really do anything with those tools is Raikkonen.

In F1 the driver makes all the difference. When your vehicle can accelerate from a standstill to 100 mph in 3 seconds, it takes a very quick, focused, athletic person to control it. True enough, money in F1 brings better technology (i.e. Ferrari's gearbox that can make a gear shift with the touch of a button in .03 seconds at 16,000 RPM and 180 mph while braking) it takes a pilot to control the car.

IMHO, anyone can drive a NASCAR. That is why NASCAR is so overwhelmingly popular, its an everyman's sport. F1 is the premier autoracing circuit.

I still think the fans of NASCAR, if they want to see aggressive driving should watch Rally!

Rally is totally insane! Watching those guys fly through the woods at high rates of speed is crazy! I would really like to know how often they feel like they are in control and how often they are "along for the ride" so to say.

Why belong in F1?

I'm mainly a F1 fan, some of the greatest drivers in that, like the Schumacher brothers, they make many a good driver look very silly! ;)

I think it is upto the drivers, some of them at least, fair enough most of them have a car that makes it highly unlikely they win!

But, look at Ferrari, Schumacher consitantly beats Barichello!

And thats what F1 is, a team sport not just a driver sport, you can get into the teams and the technology, just another thing to effect the racing. Personal opinion whether or not you like that!
